November 30, 2015

Bob: Another month has come and gone. It seems as though time is flying by. Most of today was spent getting CDs ready for the departing missionaries, checking on apartment offers and paying some bills. I am going to go with Elder Cannon in the morning as he is picking up missionaries from the Toronto Stake Center that are transferring out of the Ossington Zone. We take them to the Brampton Stake Center and then take the missionaries transferring into Ossington Zone back to the Toronto Stake Center. Seems like an extra trip, and it is, but there isn't a good way around it.
It's very late and we have to leave at 7:10 in the morning so good night everyone. Hope you have had a wonderful day. Love to all and good night brother.

November 29, 2015

Bob: It has been a good Sabbath Day. I am only aware of a few mistakes I made today, but the biggest one was upgrading to Windows 10. I have been trying to recover files and get things back to normal since. If there was a way to reverse this I would do it. So consider this a warning if you are tempted to upgrade. Microsoft is tyring to make their software look like their worthless phone. That's another thing I would never pay for, a Microsoft phone.
The weather started off in the 20s but got up to the 30s. Still not very warm for us old folks. Thankfully there is no white stuff on the ground to worry about.
I see that Magnolia won their playoff game yesterday so they will play on Wheeling Island Saturday night playing East Hardy in the state final. Good luck Blue Eagles! Magnolia beat Williamstown 13-7 and East Hardy romped over St. Marys 36-19. Magnolia had beaten Williamstown earlier in the season and they beat St. Marys on their field by about 20. So it could be a close final that goes either way.
Bonnie is on the phone with Jeff's family I think. Talked to Scott earlier. She just rotates as she can't call everyone in one evening. We have tried to Skype, but just can't seem to get it to work very well. Another good Microsoft product.
Sacrament was really good today. One of the young men told the story about Tom taking a whipping in school for a little guy. The chapel was really quiet and I saw the Bishop wiping his eyes. Of course the talk was about what the Savior has done for us. Very good talk and very emotional.
Better hop off here and get to bed. Love to all and good night brother.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  I have been able to do alot this Sabbath Day. The tree is up, with another set of lights on top of the original set, which don't work. We didn't even put up all of the ornaments that were left for us. It's just enough for our apartment. I am happy with it. I've been able to talk to three of my children to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. And my next project is to get things ready to mail for Christmas.  I'm making headway tonight!
It will be a busy week ahead, with both Transfers and MLC in one week. I  hope I have enough supplies ordered. I'm never sure about it. And the packages keep mounting. I pray that they all get delivered in time so we can get them out to the missionaries by next week at Zone Conferences.  It will be heartbreaking if they don't get here in time!
I really enjoyed Sacrament Meeting. As Bob has mentioned, a young man told one of my favorite stories. I think it's called "He Took My Lickin' For Me". Aren't we grateful for our Savior Jesus Christ who did in fact take our lickings for us? I know I am. I hope your Sabbath has been inspiring, even a "revelatory experience" as Elder Perkins taught us when he was here. I love you all.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

November 28, 2015

Bonnie:   It's been another long, but fulfilling day. Dinner was fun with the missionaries. The turkey was done just right and the gravy turned out well. I was able to heat up the rolls in the microwave, so that was also good. We were taught about the atonement by the APs. It was very special and I felt the Spirit strongly. We have so much to be thankful for. It's an amazing thing. We have so many tender mercies each day. It is very evident to me that Heavenly Father is real and that He has a plan for us. And it's all possible because of the atonement of Jesus Chirst. We followed dinner with getting a few of the dishes done and then heading up to the Erickson's for their get-together. We were over an hour late but got to visit with several of the other Senior couples. We left a bit early because we still had cleaning up to do. That's all done now and I want to go to bed soon! In the morning before church I will be making two tuna noodle casseroles for Munch and Mingle. I have a pumpkin pie, too, because it is the birthday Sunday tomorrow, the only day we have dessert at M&M. I also want to get our Christmas presents ready to mail to our nine children. It will be a wonderful Sabbath!
Love to all, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Bonnie has pretty much filled you in on our day. She did set up the christmas tree, but that is all that is up. The tree has lights on it already, but they don't work. We'll have to get some lights to put on it. I'm sure there are plenty of other things to put on it.
Did go over the Cannon's to see how they are doing. They appear to be pretty tired from their trip. They said they weren't going out today.
I made a trip to Staples and picked up some report covers that are needed at the office. Also went to Walmart and picked up a couple different christmas candies to set around the apartment. Got some quick links for the safety cable on our cargo van. The pin to hold the tongue on the ball keeps coming up missing so I would bet the one quick link we have won't last too long. A few extra won't hurt.
Elder Cannon has been asked to drive the van and cargo trailer to the Toronto Stake Center on Tuesday morning and pick up the Ossington Elders/Sisters being transferred and bring them back to the Brampton Stake Center. I don't know for sure, but he may have to take some new missionaries back to the Toronto Stake Center in the afternoon. We'll play that by ear. I hope he is a quick learner as I probably can't make 2 trips on Tuesday.
Well, I'm going to bed. Hope you have had a great Thanksgiving weekend so far. May the Sabbath Day be a blessing in your life tomorrow. Love to all, and good night brother.

November 27, 2015

Bob: We planned on leaving the office early today, but I got a call before we were leaving and ended up staying till almost 6. Thankfully we didn't have to stop at the grocery store. It took a while to get home as the traffic was terrible tonight. Trying to make a left turn sometimes took 2 or 3 lights.
We finished up the Pizza Hut pizza tonight. It hit the spot in my opinion.
Took the Assistants with me today to remove an old couch and broken drown dresser from their apartment. We had to get a flat fixed on the trailer before we could use the trailer. Stopped at the Master Mechanic shop where I had my oil changed. They pulled out a nail and plugged the hole. Then they didn't charge me for that.
There was a light rain the entire time we were gone. We managed to stay mostly dry though. After dumping the things at the city dump I stopped to sign the lease for the new apartment. However, the person who had the file wasn't there. They suggested I stop on Monday! Sent her an email to call me to arrange the signing.
Took the Mission's new van with our cargo trailer and went to the trailer sales where I bought the raised receiver. In my opinion the receiver was about an inch or so too high. The owner wasn't there when I got there so I explained to the guy working there that I wanted to get a receiver that was a little lower. He agreed that the one we had was too high. We found one that we thought would work so he started to change the ball. At that time the owner showed up and we began talking about whether I could pull a small trailer with our Avalon. Anyway the other guy put the new receiver on and hooked the trailer back up while we were talking. When we came back from looking at the 2 small trailers he had the worker gave him a list of things I had gotten. The owner said we'll just trade you receivers and only charge you for the 4 lock pins, a total of $12.00. So I paid the bill and we were getting ready to leave when I remembered the safety cable was damaged. I showed it to the owner and he made me up a new one and didn't charge me for it.
Right now I am listening to the Les Miserables - 10th Anniversary Concert. It is so unbelieveable. There are so many good songs. I am anticipating my favorite, "Bring Him Home".
We finished the laundry earlier and now the First Mate is doing some serious work in the kitchen getting ready for the turkey dinner tomorrow evening. The bread for the dressing has been shreded and now she is working on the potatoes. The pies and rolls are on sitting on the dining table. We are expecting 6 missionaries for the dinner.

Bonnie:  Yes, I used both my special potatoe recipe and my special stuffing recipe as well for our "American" Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. The problem is they don't taste as good as they usually do back home. Oh, well. I hope the missionaries think it tastes ok. Basically tomorrow I will just clean the house and put up our little tree and a few other Chritsmas things. I'll put the turkey in about 2:30 or 3. I just have to worry about the gravy, vegetables and a small veggie tray. Easy!! I actually enjoy entertaining when I have the time! I want to talk to the rest of my kids, too, and wish them a late Happy Thanksgiving.
I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday. We love and miss you!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Thursday 26 November 2015

November 26, 2015

Bonnie:  Happy American Thanksgiving, everyone! We got home from our delicious dinner at the Erickson's with the Cannon's and Laura about half an hour ago. We're both tired tonight (maybe it's the turkey we ate!) and will get to bed early. Tomorrow is Black Friday here in Canada as well as the US! I really don't want to go out shopping tomorrow but may have to because I need two pies for Saturday night and one for Munch and Mingle on Sunday. It's a birthday Sunday which is once a month so there will be a dessert. This month it is pumpkin pie, courtesy of the Senior Advisor couples. I'm a little afraid to go to Costco tomorrow! We'll have to see what happens. Saturday, after we feed the missionaries, we'll be going back to Erickson's for games and munchies with the other senior couples who live here on  Silver Maple Court. It will be a very fun evening I'm sure.
Today was kind of hectic because the Cannon's came to the office to get a feel for what they will be doing, then a couple of missionaries were also there all day, working with Laura. Then, some other missionaries came by after a temple session to pick up supplies. Bob had some things come up, so instead of leaving at 4, we left about 5:15, just in time to make it to dinner at Erickson's. Never a dull moment! But, it's a good kind of busy!!
Again, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving today, and that all of us can ever be grateful for everything we have. I know the Lord has poured out blessings upon Bob and I while we have been here, trying our best to serve him as best we can. May we all count our many blessings!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Continuing the job of cleaning up things in my office. Slowly but surely I am finding a place for everything. My desk is almost empty and you can see the top of the credenza too. Some things came up after 4 so I had to leave a few papers out so we could leave and get to dinner. Tomorrow I will try and get it all cleaned up. It's only been about 6 months getting out from under everything.
This is the first Thanksgiving in years I haven't seen any football or taken a long afternoon nap. Feels a little strange actually.
Had an offer accepted for another apartment today. Have an offer in on another apartment for a Senior Couple. Will find out about that apartment tomorrow.
Had a visitor from Guelph today. His son owns an apartment that Sisters stay in. They want to remodel that and sell it so they are offering to rent another apartment to the Sisters. It sounds like it will be a better location for the Sisters. I think they will be moving around the first of the year.
Well I'm going to go to bed. Seems like I get less and less sleep as the week goes along and then on Saturdays I am barely able to get up by 8:00. I may be forming a bad habit there.
Love to all, and good night brother.

Wednesday 25 November 2015

November 25, 2015

Bob: Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving eve today. We had our usual. Left the office about 6:30 tonight, but it wasn't because of me. I was ready at just past 5, but the First Mate was trying to process a supply order that she never quite got finished. Will have to get it on it the first thing in the morning without any help from Salt Lake as they are off until Monday.
We did manage to stop at Pizza Hut tonight instead of Wendys. That made Bonnie happy. She got her salad and a little pizza. I got plenty of pizza!!
We are having Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow night with the Ericksons and the Cannons who arrived today. They are from Tennessee I believe. At last there is someone in the office that speaks like I do. We should get along just fine.
I think we rented another apartment in Ajax today. The realtor said they had accepted our offer. Just have 4 more to find! 2 for missionaires and 2 for Senior couples. One couple is already here, but their landlord is selling the condo they rent. The other couple is coming the beginning of February.
I am calling it a night. Going to get to bed earlier tonight.
Love to all and good night brother.
Dad/Bob

Outside our living room window on Tuesday morning.

I took this picture about 9:00 am Monday. Notice the green grass at the top of the picture.
They had already laid this sod early this morning.

Bonnie: I will make this quick. It's already nearing my bed-time and I have another email to write. I was waiting for all the supply orders to come through and that's what made me late. The last one never came. And then there were problems with my computer when I tried to order the supplies. I put one order in and will have to try to do the rest of it tomorrow. We are receiving 4 Elders from Quebec and this is turning out to be complicated, to say the least since they are changing missions. The good part is that they will attend church in our favorite place--Temiskaming Branch! It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I'll sign out now, with the hope that everyone has a wonderful day tomorrow! I love you all!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Tuesday 24 November 2015

November 24, 2015

Bob: Well I got the word today that I can sign the lease Friday for another apartment here in Vertica. And we'll be starting the lease on the 16th of December. So their hold ups cost them 1270.00, but saved us 1270.00. Hope they are satisfied. Also got my $3500 check today to put into our account so we'll have ready access to cash for rent deposits when they come up. Think I'll frame that permission letter.
Went to Mississauga Institute class tonight. Only 3 students were there. Brother Wild is the instructor for 3 more weeks than the new CES couple will start off in January for the new term.
We have 2 sisters in Sarnia that have been evicted from their apartment. There was an explosion there Sunday night at 1:30 and everyone had to evacuate. No one was allowed back into the place. Blew out part of the side of the building and put the fire alarm system, fire water system and elevator out of commission. It is being investigated as a possible meth lab explosion. The sisters were picked up by the 1st Counselor and his wife at 2:30 in the morning standing outside the building. No one is being allowed back in the building for at least 2 weeks. They can't go back and get anything. The Ward is taking care of all their needs right now. We are going to try to give a move-out notice before the end of the month. The building has turned into a known drug distribution center.
Well I'm hitting the sack. Got some pictures of our first snow this morning, but the camera is at the office. Will put them on the blog tomorrow night. Love to all, and good night brother.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  Not much to relate tonight. It was a relatively quiet day. The most important thing I got done was ordering the "A Savior Is  Born" pass along cards in Chinese. This was a first-time experience ordering something different from the business card company. They were very helpful, thankfully. I hope they are correct! I wish we could do it in Farsi--the Elders want it so badly--but the church did not offer them in that language.
Tomorrow we will meet the Cannon's. I hope we can make their adjustments go well. It will make for a crowded mission office because they will have to be in the President's office, except, of course, when he is there and the APs have to work on transfers. The door remains shut because the "Transfer Board" is in there. It's important not to let the other missionaries see it until their "transfer" phone calls come. Transfers are next week, a week from today, actually. Then the following Friday is MLC. It will be a really crazy week.
May everyone have a wonderful day tomorrow
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Monday 23 November 2015

November 23, 2015

Bonnie: I have been home about 5 minutes and Bob is already back from taking home our 3 YSAs from Family Home Evening. Sis. Erickson and I cleaned out their old apartment kitchen for the Cannon's who will be here Wednesday. I didn't expect him for another 20-30 minutes. It's nice to relax before we turn in for the night.
Something funny happened Friday I want to share. The Staple's delivery guy came with several boxes.  As he was unloading, he asked me about the term "Sister" noticing my name tag. Our conversation went something like this: He wanted to know if the men in our church were called "brothers".  I said we are all brothers and sisters, really, and that yes, the men were called brothers unless  they were called on missions, and then they were called "Elders".  Then he said "I guess you have Fathers, too," which clued me in to the fact that he was Catholic. I said no, other than the fact that everyone has a father and mother, right? Then, he said, "But what about Mothers? You have Mothers, right?" I guess he was thinking about Mother Superiors in the Catholic Church. Again, I said not like the Catholic Church, just that we all have mothers and fathers. It made me chuckle. I told him that if he had any more questions to be sure and ask.
I am about out of room for packages in the office. I've used every spare shelf I can find. I think we'll have to start putting them out around the office, and probably in President Clayton's personal office.
I don't know what else to do. What's bugging me the most is that several parents have said watch for my package and give it to my missionary asap. About six haven't come in yet! One is some medication for Elder Monson, who is President Monson's grand-son. I just pray the packages get here. Every day I get notifications from one or two of our carriers with some kind of problem. It's driving me crazy! Being Mrs. Santa Claus is pretty stressful!
Well it's Bob's turn. Have a happy Thanksgiving week!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: I hadn't thought of Bonnie as Mrs. Santa Claus. She is going to get packages for another couple of weeks and then they'll be given out at the Zone Conferences. I can't help but think if she was the real Mrs. Claus that had to store packages for 364 days she would go crazy!! But I know she just wants to make it special for the missionaries. The Clayton's wanted to know which missionaries were getting packages and which were not. Sister Clayton said she has some friends that would be sending some gift certificates for those who weren't getting anything. Bonnie reminded her that the gift cards from the US couldn't be used in Canada. The look she had let us know she had no idea that was the case. The gift certificate thing will have to be rethought.
Got the go ahead with the Vertica apartment today. Then I told them we didn't need the apartment now until December 16. The leasing agent wasn't too happy but seemed to understand since our original date of Nov 16 has passed. I am waiting for the incoming CES couple to send me their automobile information and then we'll sign a lease beginning December 16.
Called SL about the problem with buying money orders. The person I talked to put me on hold so he could run the problem by the accountant. Finally he got back on the phone and said they thought I should just write myself a check and cash it so I could then buy the money order. I told him that wouldn't work because once I know I need the money order, I have to get it within 48 hours. When I write the check it must be approved by the President first. Then I would have to deposit it and wait through the 7 day hold the bank puts on Canadian checks. He said, "I see the problem. Let me talk to them again." So I am put on hold again. When he comes back he says" I can't find anyone now. Would you call back in about an hour?"
So I call back in about 2 hours. And he says they are planning on turning my Bank of America card into a debit card! That way I could withdraw cash when I needed it to buy the money order. That sounds okay to me.
I hop in the car and take some things to the post office. I'm going to ask them about using my card to purchase the money orders. The guy at the counter looks at my card and says, "Tthis is an international card. There is no way the post office would ever take it as a debit card no matter what they do to it."
When I get back to the office I get a call from a senior accountant. He says, "Guess what I want to talk about." Money orders I say. That's right. He then goes on to say they can change my card but he knows the banks, post office, etc. would not accept it as a debit card. He says the only solution he sees is to put the money in someone's local account. I told him I have a local account. He is surprised by this, but says he can work with that. He tells me he will send me authorization to write myself an advance to hold in my personal account and then when we need to purchase a money order I can withdraw the money and purchase it. (I think I'll frame that letter! I've received it already.)
Time to go to bed. Love to all and good night brother.

Sunday 22 November 2015

November 22, 2015

Bonnie:  I want to get started on the blog early tonight. We've had a wonderful day, especially with the dedication of the Montreal Temple. What a beautiful experience. It was nice to get home early, too. After dropping Belinda off we were home about 2:15! That gave me time to cook dinner! And now, I'm anxious to get our Christmas stuff up. I've looked through it and am pleased with what the previous sisters left here. I may need to buy a tree skirt, but other than that I have some nice things. Well probably do the tree next week-end. I normally wouldn't do it this early, but it is after Thanksgiving here. Next Saturday I want to have 6 missionaries over for an "American" Thanksgiving dinner. They'll have to enjoy it with Christmas stuff up, though. And I won't be able to have all of the homemade food I would at home. I will do my stuffing and mashed potatoes and the rest will be from the grocery store bakery!
I hope tonight to solidify some Christmas arrangements. That way I can approach President Clayton with what we would like to do. What is complicating our plans is that MLC is two days after Ed's Memorial Service in New Martinsville. We will have to be back in Canada for that.
I want to close by writing that I'm so thankful for my Savior and the way back to Him, which includes our beautiful temples. How blessed we are! May we all remember and take advantage of this huge tender mercy in our lives.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: While I have been reading Bonnie has started turning the apartment atmosphere into Christmas. It's like the little child in her is coming out! I like what she has done so far and I know it will be much nicer by this time next weekend.
Today has been relaxing. We picked up Belinda for church, but no one else called for a ride. And there was no Munch 'n Mingle today. There weren't as many YSA there today as usual and there were several people I have not seen before. Elder Perkins, who toured our Mission this week, led us in the Hosanna Shout at the end of the rededication. He told us he had a speaking assignment in the 3rd session. President Clayton's brother, L. Whitney Clayton, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, spoke in the session we watched. President Eyring read the dedicatory prayer and he was scheduled to speak in the 3rd session.
Well, I'll be contacting Vertica tomorrow about the lease and Salt Lake about the check for our debit account. We'll see how those 2 items turn out. Got all the young missionary's apartments lined up except for one in Ajax. We have an offer to rent submitted, but they have not called us back.
Better close for now. Hope everyone had a blessed Sabbath. Love to all and good night brother.

Saturday 21 November 2015

November 21, 2015

Bonnie:  It's been a good day today. I was able to do everything I wanted. I had an extra load of wash to do and some errands to two different stores. The most important thing was helping the Erickson's move. They didn't want much help, but I was able to clean the kitchen shelves for her. And then we had them over for dinner and that was kind of crazy. I decided to do a new dessert and it turned out kind of funky. But, it tasted good and who can complain about chocolate brownie cake and ice cream? Anyway, we had chili, biscuits and salad which Bob helped make. (Don't be too shocked--it's a ready-made salad that you just mix together.) Everything turned out OK.
I am learning how to polish my shoes the way Bob does it. He showed me how tonight. I only wear one pair to the office and they get kind of "used-looking". The polish really helps. So, tomorrow for the dedication of the Montreal Temple, I will have nice-looking shoes. We are excited to be part of the dedication, even though it's from a distance. Everyone here is very excited.
We're trying to figure out our Christmas plans. We will be in New Martinsville on the 28th of December for Ed's Memorial Service, and that is south of Chris and Misty and their families. Surely, we can work something out! Next week-end I want to have an American Thanksgiving dinner for some of the missionaries on Saturday. And then on Sunday I want to look at all of the Chrismas decorations that came with this apartment. Many people already have their decorations out. I'm loving it! Even though it seems early to me, I want to get them up.
I  hope everyone has a wonderful Sabbath tomorrow. I know we will!
Love to all, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: The days started off dastardly as I had forgotten to turn the alarm off on my phone last night. It went off at 5:45 and it was lying on the dining room table. So I had to stumble to it and shut it off. Went back to bed and finally got up at 8. Only had one other nap the rest of the day!!
I didn't get to help the Ericksons move at all. Offered to help move some of the things over from their building to ours, but they didn't want the help. Ended up taking the cart I brought home to move some thing with back to the office so we would have an empty back seat in the car tomorrow for riders.
Stopped at the Post Office to see if we could purchase money orders there. They said we could, but they would only take cash or a debit card as payment. The Mission Card we have is a credit card, so it won't work. I talked to President Clayton about it and told him I was going to call Salt Lake and suggest that I write myself a check for about $3500 and put it in our checking account. Then when I needed the money order for a rental deposite I would get the money order using my debit card. He said that sounds like a great idea to him and that he would support that. So Monday I'll call Salt Lake and see what they think. They suggested we buy the money order from a local vendor such as Walmart or the Post Office. The bank will not give us one. However Walmart doesn't sell money orders in Canada and the others all want cash or a debit card. Maybe they'll send me a debit card that I can use. We'll see.
Talked to Salt Lake Friday about the check depositing issue at the bank. They are going to take care of that problem by opening a new deposit account for us at another branch of the bank. They said they would sign a third party agreement with them and that would take care of the problem. The lady said it would take about 2 weeks to get the account opened and materials to us because one of the people who must sign the paperwork is on vacation until November 30th. I would think they would have a alternative plan when something like that happens, but so be it.
Been a nice restful day for the most part. Looking forward to the temple dedication tomorrow. Don't know if we are having Munch 'n Mingle tomorrow.
Everyone have a great Sabbath. Love to all, and good night brother.

Friday 20 November 2015

November 20, 2015

Bob: Another day, another MLC in the books. Tough thing is, there is another MLC in about 3 weeks. I cooked waffles today with Sister Erickson. Sister Martin had to take care of the front desk and Elder Erickson had a car accident among other things to deal with. With the 2 waffle makers it's not too bad. One person can usually operate both of the makers while the other person makes batter, etc. We ended up with more waffles than we needed though. Some were taken home.
One thing I forgot to tell you about yesterday. When we went to Costco the first thing the First Mate told me was that she needed to visit the washroom because I had taken so long at the bank. I said ok, I'll wait for you because I don't want to get separated in Costco (Walmart is bad enough; I might never find her in Costco). So I'm standing there waiting for her when she finally appears. She tells me, "I must be getting tired. I went into the wrong washroom!" I said, "Was anyone in there?" She said, "Oh yeah! It didn't take me long to realize I was in the wrong one." I asked her if anyone offered her a seat! Anyway, she didn't seem too flustered by it. Happened to me one time, but I don't remember when or where. But the washroom was empty!!
After work today I took 2 Elders to the storage hut so we could load up a box spring, a bed frame, and 3 chairs. They are taking that plus 4 bikes to Windsor, which is just across the border from Detroit. Takes them about 4 hours to get there. That's one trip I didn't want to make. They had to leave their car and take the pickup and cargo van.
Once I got home we went to Walmart to pick up a few things. Don't have major plans tomorrow except helping the Ericksons move their personal things from Building 6 to Building 4. A new couple will be moving into their old apartment in Building 6. I didn't get the insurance certificate till 6:00 today for a new apartment we are trying to lease. The ball is in their court now if they want to lease to us. I originally wanted the apartment by today, but that didn't happen. Now I don't need it till January. I am sure that is going to make them very happy.
Don't know if I mentioned it or not, but Hannah totaled her car a couple weeks ago. Well on Tuesday night she totaled her mother's new car. She is alright, but that's 2 cars in about 2 weeks. I think her mother better sit down when she gets her insurance renewal/non-renewal letter. Either way it's not going to be pretty.
Got to let the First Mate write now before she goes to sleep. Love to all and enjoy your weekend. Good night brother.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: Some good things happened today. We could hear the missionaries singing for MLC. I just love it--those powerful voices singing "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and the combined songs: "As Sisters in Zion" and "We'll Bring the World His Truth". It makes me want to weep! Some packages that I have been waiting to receive came today. And two companionships gave us pictures to put on our bulletin board. We  had plenty of waffles and plenty of treats on the treat platter. It was a very good day.
Tomorrow we will  help Erickson's move and then have them over for a simple dinner. It will also be a good day and I will get to do some cooking!
May all of us  have a good day tomorrow, where we are blessed by the Lord is my prayer this night.

November 19, 2015

Bonnie:  We're getting started early on the blog tonight. I'm glad for that because I want to go to bed early. Tomorrow Elder Perkins is coming to finish his visit by presiding over MLC. He will be leaving after lunch, but I'm not sure what time. Anyway, Bob was all set to leave today before 5:00 and I still needed to clean and straighten the office before we left. I vacuumed and dusted in the outer office and it looks much better. I've hidden away all the packages and Bob emptied all the garbage. It looks presentable. We then went to the bank (I'll let Bob tell about that) and then to Costco to get the treats for the treat tray. We're having the little cinnamon rolls, the brownie bites and a selection of chips as our offering. I'm sure the missionaries will be pleased with it. The poor Erickson's spent the day in Bracebridge inspecting cars. She came by tonight to get the key to Barrett's old apartment, where they will be moving Saturday. We're getting a new couple who want to be on the first floor because she uses a walker and cane. They will live in Erickson's old apartment. Anyway, to make a long story short, Sis. E. looked like she was ready for a restful night. I'm sure it will be a good day tomorrow. I just have a few preparations left to do, such as the mail. Of course, the mail is a huge deal the closer we get to Christmas.
It's getting colder, especially when the wind blows. It's all good, though. The Lord is blessing me so that I'm not cold very often. What a tender mercy! Maybe I'll have to write that on our Tender Mercy Jar and get some candy--NOT! I've had more than enough candy!
Sweet dreams, everyone I hope you're warm and snuggly tonight.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Let me tell you about the bank. It is amazing that Canada is so far ahead of the rest of the industrialized world. They make it such a joy to do business here. They informed me tonight that they will no longer let us deposit checks that say 'Canada Toronto Mission'. Only checks in the name of the account, 'The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Canada' will be accepted. Also, they will not honor our checks to buy money orders, nor will they certify our checks. To make this an even sweeter deal you have to stand in line for a good length of time before you get to hear this. I am calling Salt Lake tomorrow and letting them deal with the banking situation. I can send them the checks and they can deposit them in the local account. As far as getting a money order for a rent deposit I'll just keep telling them we can't get one. That always makes the prospective landlord anxious to accept your offer to rent.
Didn't hear anything today about the proof of insurance for the apartment. Actually, we don't need the apartment now until about the 1st of January. I think I'll drop that tidbit of information when they finally call to complete the closing, if they call. They could have had about almost $2000 Monday, but that is now off the table. Anyway, there are lots of other apartments to rent.
Went to Costco tonight after work. We learned that Thursday is a good day to go. The checkout lady looked about beat. She said she couldn't wait to get home and sit down, but that Thursdays are not that bad, really. She said Friday is much worse and that there is no descriptive terms to describe Saturday and Sunday. And now they are staying open an hour later on the weekends. She said she is thankful she doesn't work on the weekend.
Better wind it up for the night. Love and hugs to all. Good night brother.

November 18, 2015

Bonnie:  We were able to leave fairly early tonight! Life is good here. There were two big orders that came in late this afternoon, for which I am so grateful. It means I will have many of the things the missionaries will need for Friday's MLC. Because it's so soon after the last one, there will be no big orders to fill or any ESL supplies to prepare. But, there are always a few "hot" items that I need to have on hand such as planners, media/referral bibles, the four standard works in pocket size, "I'm A Mormon" pass-along cards, and "The Restoration" DVD. Oh, and full boxes of Books of Mormon. I should be ok with what I have now. I never know for sure, however. Today a missionary asked me for a Book of Mormon in Burmese. The church doesn't make those, but they do make a Thai translation, so this will work for them.
Just as we were getting ready to leave, the Erickson's came in to pick up the mail for zone conference tomorrow. They looked so tired! They had many more cars to inspect today than yesterday, and no help until the afternoon. I'm sure they will be glad to finish up zone conferences tomorrow. And then, after MLC on Friday, they will have to move to our building on Saturday! Another couple is coming here and will need their first floor apartment. So, life goes on and the missionary work goes on, too.
It's getting colder each day. Now I need my heavier coat. But, the sun still seems to shine, for at least part of every day. I like the weather here so far!
Have a wonderful day tomorrow, everyone.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Got caught up on most things today except for the Vertica lease. Got the Certificate of Insurance, but they didn't like something on it. Now Salt Lake has to request it be changed by a firm in Toronto, who in turn sends it back to Salt Lake. Then they send it to the Vendor and me. Can't wait to see what else they find wrong the next time. I called the realtor tonight and she is looking for something else close to here. If I can find it we are on our way out of here. We can keep the 7 apartments we have, but as a couple goes home we will close it down and move elsewhere. Us and the Ericksons need to be closer to our office anyway.
The weather is wet right now. Started raining this afternoon before we left the office. Chance for rain until about 1 tomorrow. Temperatures will be in the 50s from now until about 4 tomorrow afternoon. Then they drop to low 40s and high 30s throughout Friday.
Been going round and round with ATT. They suspended my phone at a reduced rate on May 4th for 6 months. They turned it back on again on Nov 1 and activated the mobile data without me knowing it. When I found out about it on 5th or 6th I had incurred over $50 for data overage charges. They aren't willing to back off anything so far. We'll see what tomorrow brings. My contract is up on November 5th and that's when I say good-bye to ATT. I hope the $50 helps them to a record year!!
Did get the Ossington Zone Leaders a new apartment though. We're keeping the realtor busy looking for apartments. Hope she can find one for the new CES couple that is nicer than what we have.
Joey called and said that Hannah totaled her car last night. Rear ended a tractor-trailer. The truck didn't even stop. Joey bought the car within the last month so I don't think she is going to like the settlement she gets. We'll see how GEICO treats her.
Got to hit the sack. Love to all, and good night brother.

Tuesday 17 November 2015

November 17, 2015

Bonnie: What a great day this has been. We went to the first part of Zone Conference this morning and listened to Elder Perkins, Sister Clayton, President Clayton and several of the missionaries. According to Elder Perkins instead of the term "meeting" we should call it a "revelatory experience" and come to such gatherings with personal questions. He had us write down two questions. I got help with one and feel I will get it with the other in time. After a huge lunch put on by the Oshawa Stake, we started inspecting the vehicles. Except for the misionary who put oil into the windshield fluid, things went well. In fact, two missionaries made cookies for the Erickson's, which they shared. That was a nice surprise. We then changed and listened to the end of a question and answer session and Elder Perkin's final testimony. Then, tonight, we had dinner with him at Clayton's. We have been well fed today, both physically and spiritually! It was wonderful to sit and ask our own questions to Elder Perkins tonight. Bob will probably share some of what he said.
Tomorrow it's back to the "old grind" I guess you'd call it. Except that each day there are new experiences. I'm sure there are a mountain of packages waiting for me at the office, some that are for Christmas and some that are supplies. Bob will probably stay late tomorrow night to catch up on his many financial/apartment problems.
May all of my precious family and friends feel the love of the Savior tonight and tomorrow. I know he loves us all with a perfect love.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: It has been a good day. The 'revelatory experience' was very good today. It was about 50 miles to the Stake Center where we met. But it was good to get away from the apartment problems for at least a day.
I asked Elder Perkins tonight how President Monson was doing. Most of you probably saw him almost fall during his last Conference talk. Elder Perkins said that President Monson is in a wheel chair most of the time now. He does not have much energy and conference week had probably taken a toll on him because of all the meetings, plus Elder Scott's funeral on Monday of that week. His mind is still good, except he does have some problems with short-term memory at times.
One story Elder Perkins told us was about Elder Nelson. I think Elder Nelson performed one of the first heart transplants in China. After Elder Nelson retired from surgery he got a call from China that they wanted him to come over and do an operation on a special person. Elder Nelson explained that he couldn't do that for various reasons. The next day he got another call from the 2nd man in charge in China asking that he please come over and do the surgery. So Elder Nelson went to see President Benson and he told him to go ahead. So Elder Nelson went over and directed the team of doctors that performed the surgery and saved the man's life. I think that was in 1985. During the 30 years between then and now the church has sent various apostles to China requesting a meeting with all Chinese Saints, both natural Chinese and foreigners. The Chinese have always said no to them. They would allow the meeting, but without the Chinese and foreigners combined. This year Elder Nelson went to China and asked the same question. They said, 'For you, old friend, yes, you can have your meeting.' There is much more to the story, but the real point is the Lord is preparing China within for the gospel. Chinese Elders are teaching the gospel and the church is growing in China.
I had better get to bed. Remember, the Lord loves you no matter what. He may be sad with some of the things we do, but He will always love us.
Love to all, and good night brother.

Monday 16 November 2015

November 16, 2015

Bob: This day started okay then went south. Went to sign the lease with Vertica and it didn't happen. They have more concerns so I'll give it one more shot. After that I'll just get apartments elsewhere. They must not need the money.
Then this evening got better. We met at the Bishop's Storehouse for the YSA FHE. There were about 25 there and we did a lot of cleaning and other things that should help those that are there everyday. It was fun to get my mind off the bad experience with Vertica. We took a young man and a young woman with us. Both of them worked hard. The young man worked with me and he didn't stand around watching like some were prone to do at times. We moved pallets, swept and mopped under them. Then we cut the plastic off several pallets and stacked the items so they could be gotten to easily when filling orders. Ended up getting home about 10 after stopping at Wendy's. Had to check out their Frosty machine.
It's late and we have to be in Oshawa (about an hour away) tomorrow at 9:00 for a meeting with Elder Perkins, a visiting First Quorum of Seventy member. After that meeting we have to check the vehicles that the missionaries are driving. Tomorrow night we have dinner at the Mission Home with the President, his wife and Elder Perkins. Probably won't get home till about 8. So starting Wednesday I will be about a day and a half behind. Will be working late both Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Hope your day was fantastic. Love to all and good night brother. Bonnie sends her love.

Sunday 15 November 2015

November 15, 2015

Bonnie:  We've had a good Sabbath. We picked up three YSAs today. They live relatively close to each other so that helped. I helped serve the Munch and Mingle dinner today, as usual. We had a small group because several of them went to Montreal for the Temple open house. That meant that they could have two servings of rice instead of one. There was plenty of food. Next Sunday is the Montreal Temple dedication, so there will not be any food served. The dedication should be a wonderful experience. I'm looking forward to it.
Tomorrow the mission is hosting a general authority for the week. He's coming to tour the mission. There will be three Zone Conferences and MLC on Friday. We'll get to meet him personally Tuesday evening because Erickson's and us have been invited to dinner at the Mission Home by Clayton's. It should be a great week. I just hope that the deliveries come tomorrow so I can go to Tuesday's Zone Conference. I have two big orders coming from Salt Lake City and someone has to be here to accept them.
It's been unseasonably warm today. At least that's what everyone says. I love it. I haven't had to wear my heavy, extra warm stuff. May we be warm this coming week is my wish for us all!
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Church was good today, but there were several YSAs not there for some reason. Munch 'n Mingle was sparsely populated. Plenty for seconds and more if you wanted it. We took 3 YSAs to church with us. Luckily, they all lived within a couple miles of each other. Usually they are spread all over the place.
Brad left around 8:30 this morning. He was going to go to Barrie and stop for church up there. It is just about an hour away and church starts at 10 so he shouldn't have had any problems. He wants us to come up sometime during the last half of February and go ice fishing with him. I may take him up on it so we can say 'been there, done that'. Still seems like a bad idea though.
Been a relaxing evening here. We talked to Lorraine, Joey, Shannon (Christian), and Lori. Trying to reach Sandy, who is our upstairs renter. We think she is moving out though.
Got a scanner hooked up tonight. This should keep me from having to run to the Mission Office to scan apartment applications on the weekends. It would be even better if I never have anymore weekend applications!!
This week will be taxing. Have to miss most of Tuesday because of Zone Conference. Going to be loading some furniture to send to Windsor, which is just across the Canadian border from Detroit! The Z/L will take the truck and furniture back with them on Friday and then bring it back here on the 25th. Saves me from driving to Detroit. I am all for that.
Weather was really nice today. Don't know why we were so blessed, but it surely was nice. Next 5 days are from 47 to 55.
Better call it a night. Love to all and good night brother.

Saturday 14 November 2015

November 14, 2015

Bonnie:  We've had a lovely day today with Brad and going to the temple. We were able to get the initiatory done for his great-grandma just before the endowment session.  I was able to take her name through. The big challenge this morning was getting breakfast. We wanted to go to Flips but it was a half hour wait. So, we tried to find a Denny's near the temple. We couldn't find that either. We ended up going to a place called Wimpy's. It was very good. After the temple we decided to go to the movies to see "Bridge of Spies" with Tom Hanks. It is a great movie! So, we're home now, relaxing and getting ready for bed. Brad will leave early in the morning and attend church in Barrie. He's got a 6-hour drive ahead.
I'm excited for a good night's sleep and for church tomorrow because it's tithing settlement. That means there are no appointments for the Bishop that I have to worry about. I can go to Sunday School and Relief Society. Yes!!
Happy Sabbath, everyone.
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Yes, what a lovely day. Was so nice to have someone visiting. Slept in till almost 8, but only did a half hour walk with Brad this morning. Been trying to do an hour's walk on Saturdays.
The reason we couldn't find Denny's today is because it has closed down. However, the Wimpy's was very good. Want to go back and try one of their burgers.
Really enjoyed the movie tonight. I'm trying to remember if Tom Hanks every made a bad movie. The big bag of popcorn helped make it a great night.
Magnolia won their playoff game 54 - 22 over Van, but Valley bowed out to South Harrison 53 - 12. Thus we won't have a state championship game between the 2 of them.
I hear the wind howling outside. It wasn't blowing too bad today while we were out, but I had to break out my scarp to keep my neck and head warm.
Going to hit the sack now. Love to all and good night brother.

Friday 13 November 2015

November 13, 2015

Bob: Another nice day at work, but the weather is quite cool, wet and windy. Thankfully, not any white stuff falling.
We will sign a lease Monday for the new apartment. They finally agreed today to do it, but then we hit another snag. They insisted payment be made with a certified check, money order, or cashier's check. Unfortunately, we cannot get any of these from the bank because our account never has money in it except for a few hours after we make a deposit. The leasing rep insisted on it, but the people above her told said accept our company check as payment. I am not sure why the big hassle. They also want photo ids of the tenants, all information about their car, and proof of tenant's insurance. Of course the church doesn't buy tenant's insurance. So that is an issue we have to skirt around.
Brad arrived from North Cobalt this evening and we had a nice meal together here. Then we spent the whole evening catching up on the news from the Branch, etc. The Barrett's stopped by and left some things for the apartment. They didn't get out of here till after 7 I think. Then they called me as they made a stop at the Ludlow's to return a book. They found the house all dark and the keys to the house in the lock. I called the home and Mr. Ludlow answered. Thankfully nothing had happened to he and his wife. The Barrett's still had to drive to Buffalo tonight. Their car was so full of stuff. Reminded me of our packing!!
Well I'm going to get ready for bed. Hope everyone is well. Love to all, and good night brother.

Thursday 12 November 2015

November 12, 2015

Bonnie:  The wind is fast and furious right now. We can hear it moan and whistle around our building, whipping up the leaves and the lid of the recycling bin down below and anything else that is not nailed down. I'm glad we are safe and warm inside tonight. Bob is talking with Christian, a young single adult who is helping him with his reports. I am doing the wash and writing on our blog.
It was a calm day today. I'm thankful for that. Next week there are Zone Conferences followed by another MLC, only 16 days after our last one. The APs told me not to ask for supply lists this time, except for specialty items, probably materials in languages other than English. That will make it much easier. Today I found that the MTC Bookstore did not receive one of my orders made in October and that another order has been lost in transit somehow. The sister over nametags said she will try to find out a tracking number for me. Then, maybe I can find out where it is. This is so frustrating to me. Oh, well, it's out of my control.
We received a very special box in the mail yesterday from a member of our ward who was just released as YM's President. It was full of 8 Books of Mormon, with testimonies in them from some of the Young Men and Women in our ward! I love it!. They are already gone, taken by just two sets of missionaries. They said they would report any experiences they have with those particular books. What a wonderful gift.
And speaking of gifts, I will have to have Bob take a picture of me in the midst of all of the packages we are receiving for missionaries for Christmas! I am struggling to find places for them all, so many of them are around my desk, and it's only November 12th! What am I going to do by the second week of December when hopefully all of the packages will be here? We get about 8-10 a day.
I hope all of you are safe and warm wherever you are this night. We think of you often and love you all.
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: It has been a very productive day. The Director of Operations for Vertica talked to me today and said that we would be able to lease the apartments in the name of the church. He said the local people would call me to make the arrangements. I got a call just a few minutes later and was told I would need to stop by and sign the lease. She said a girl would call me and make the appointment. Haven't heard from her yet!! We need the apartment by Monday too. Guess we'll try again tomorrow.
Christian has done a great deal of work on the reports I am trying to put together. He has worked basically on the phone report as it is about a fifth of the size of the text report. But he turned on his computer tonight and started his program. About 10 minutes later he had an individual report on every companionship of just about everything we are looking for. He knows what he is doing. I have a few more things to do so he will finalize the report output and then it should be ready. I get another Rogers report about the 20th of this month. He said by the 20th of December he is positive we will have it all wrapped up. That sounds so exciting to me. I will owe this young man a great debt. Hope he likes to fish and I can repay him in a big way!!
Bonnie is so right about the wind. It has been howling all evening. I saw that winds of 25 mph were possible the next couple of days. Hope it subsides some by tomorrow morning.
Better wind this up. Tomorrow will be a sad day for us in one way. Our good friends the Barretts are returning to Fargo, North Dakota tomorrow afternoon. He said they would stop at the office to return their phone, keys, etc in the morning and we could have lunch before they depart. They will be sorely missed by the YSA. They have been the little blue taxi and a mobile deli for so many!!
Time to get ready for bed. Love to all, and good night brother.

Wednesday 11 November 2015

November 11, 2015

Bonnie:   We left the office tonight about 5:10. It was so nice--although we still got home later because there was a very long line at the gas station. So, after a quick dinner we went to Costco for pancake/waffle mix and sturdy Costco plastic forks (and a few other odds and ends.) The only other thing I wanted to do was to deliver the Conference Ensign to the Temple missionaries. The problem is that their schedule is just opposite of ours. They work Tuesday through Friday nights and all day Saturday. Of course, that's when we are home from the office. I will leave them text messages and go from there.
Tomorrow night we are having one of the computer savvy young singles from our ward come over to help Bob with his phone/texting report for President Clayton. It's quite complicated I guess. So, I will be serving dinner. It will be fun and we will have to leave the office earlier than usual again. I'm not complaining! May it be a good day tomorrow for us all.
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Not a bad day at work. Still have not heard whether our apartment complex is going to lease us an apartment in the name of the church. I have told them we need an answer by tomorrow or we will just go elsewhere. We'll see tomorrow.
Weather was rainy most of the day, but the temperature wasn't too bad. Probably in the low 50s.
We did get one of our apartment applications accepted today. That's one place I'm glad to get the missionaries out of. Still looking for one more in the North York area for the Zone Leaders. We're also trying to find one in Ajax. The landlord up there is being a pain. Thought we had one on Monday, but the landlord insisted we pay for every repair under $100. Told them no thanks.
Christian Angulo is coming over tomorrow night. He is working on a program to extract the data we need from the phone/text information we receive. I know he has part of it done. He showed me what he can pull out now once I set the report up. He said he just types in a command and away it goes. We'll take a closer look tomorrow night at the final information I want so he can set up the program to gather it. Hope it all works out.
Better get ready for bed now. Love to all and good night brother.

Tuesday 10 November 2015

November 10, 2015

Bob: Another late night, but then Monday and Tuesdays are always going to be like that. We have FHE at the Brampton Stake Center from 7:30 to 9:00 on Monday and Institute from 7:30 to 9:00 at Mississauga on Tuesday. Those are givens every week. Didn't get home tonight from Mississauga until about 10:10. One of the young men's parents were there. They are from Thunder Bay. Their son has been wanting us to go up and see Thunder Bay and stay with them. So he brought them tonight so we could meet. We might go up next July or August, but President would have to okay it. It's a little far from here, about 14 hours.
Everything was back to normal at the office today. Erickson's were back, missionaries showed up, President and Sister Clayton were there most of the day, etc.
First Mate just headed for bed so I'm calling it a night. Love to everyone and good night brother.

Monday 9 November 2015

November 9, 2015

Bob: It's almost 11 and we just got home from FHE just a few minutes ago. Took 2  young ladies home and that took about an hour. So the blog will be kind of short tonight.
We had a rather peaceful day at the office. I only had 2 visitors and Bonnie had 4 others I think. The 2 I had came by to pick up their Wendy's gift certificates they won. Last Monday I sent an email to all the missionaries about what to do about problems in their apartments. At the end of the letter I asked them to send me the name of their landlord and his/her contact number so I could update their files where necessary. Today I got my first reply. So I immediately sent out another email informing all of them of the 2 missionaries that had just replied and announcing that these 2 missionaries had won the $20 worth of Wendy gift certificates for being the first ones to respond!! Got a second reply a few minutes later saying they would like to have one too. Sorry, only one.
Had a farewell tribute for the Barrett's tonight at FHE. There were a lot of people there so we didn't leave until late. Took a picture of Sean playing the piano. Sean is very high functioning autistic and eccentric. He has worked at McDonalds for over 10 years and doesn't drive.
Hope everyone had a blessed day. Love to all and good night brother.
Bonnie sends her love.

November 8, 2015

Bob: Good morning to everyone. I forgot to add this last night. Magnolia beat Linsly 34 - 14 yesterday to finish 10 - 0 and ranked number 1 in WV Class A. They open the playoffs next weekend at home against Valley (7 - 3) if Valley doesn't move up in the rankings. Valley beat Paden City (2 - 8) on Friday night.
Bonnie pretty well summed up the last couple of days. The weekend has been hectic and tomorrow night's FHE may be a challenge, but then we can relax some. I usually love the weekends because we don't see daylight till about 8:00!!! Next weekend I think our good friend from North Cobalt, Brad Suave, will be coming down to stay with us. We're looking forward to that.
Weather is on the cool side but still pretty nice. So thankful for that. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Love to all and good night brother.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  The last two days have been full. I'm quite relaxed right now on this Sunday night and it feels very good. The pulled pork turned out very well, except there could have been a bit more pork. The second pork roast we bought was under 4 pounds, and it wasn't quite enough. But, it tasted good, anyway. I'm so glad we hosted the going-away party for Barrett's. It was wonderful to sit around and talk and share stories and experiences. I'm going to miss the Barrett's very much. They are a wonderful example of a couple who love the Lord and serve others 24/7.
The baptisms went well earlier in the day yesterday. We had 14 women and 10 or 12 men there to do them. They were confirmed "font-side" after they did 5 to 6 baptisms. We got started a bit late--around 3:00 and finished up about 5:15. I enjoyed talking to them as they came into the waiting room. It's a long process to be sure all their family names are ready and then to get their clothing and change. And, each time we have had the temple President come in to talk to them before we start. That's always good. As Bob mentioned when we got home, the Laqua's were waiting for us, sitting on the steps outside our door. They had been to a meeting for RS Presidents and Bishops concerning the Bishop's Storehouse, which they run. They would have been late if they had gone home and tried to get back to our place on time.
Today Brother and Sister Barrett spoke in church. They gave awesome talks. Then, during Much and Mingle they were given a picture of the Toronto Temple. It was very sweet. This morning I made brownies for tomorrow's FHE and the casserole for today's food. It all worked out well because we only had one YSA to pick up. We actually arrived at least 10 minutes early! Then, the way home was quite a bit longer than usual because we gave another YSA a ride, and after we were done dropping them off we went to the Office. One of our fine Elders is going home tomorrow, unexpectedly. That means that Bob had to get his passport and make a CD of the letters he has written to the President and give it to him. We finally got home about 6:15 or so.
Tomorrow it should be a slower day, though every time I think that way I get lots of random calls about different thing and unexpected issues come up. I guess that's what makes what we do here interesting!
My love to everyone, and I hope you all have a great week!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Saturday 7 November 2015

November 7, 2015

Bob:  It has been a long day. Woke up a little past 7. Got up and did some stretching and then went downstairs and walked on the treadmill for an hour. After that I tried to hook up a scanner the missionaries used to have, but got a message saying the wireless capabilities have been disabled by the system administrator. Don't know how to get around that as I have no idea who the scanner used to belong to. So I had to go to the office and sign some papers to be emailed to the realtor so we could make an offer on an apartment for the Sisters living in the roach capital of Toronto.
When I got home Bonnie had the pulled pork about all done. It just needed heating in the crock pot. Then we went to the temple to help with the baptisms being done by new converts and returning members. We got there just past 1:30. We were supposed to start at 2:30, but the group before us was running behind. We ended up not getting home from the temple till about 5:40. The farewell party for the Barrett's was supposed to start at 6:00 and one couple was waiting for us when we got home.
I put some pictures of our group below.
It is after 11 so I am going to bed. The First Mate is exhausted, but she did a good job tonight. It was a great get together and she took time at the start to tell everyone exactly all the Barretts have been doing for the past 18 months.
Weather got a bit colder today and we had a brief hail storm. Love to all and good night brother.

Bob: It was quiet in the office again today. Except for the carpet cleaning people there wasn't much going on. We got word today that our landlord will NOT lease any apartments to the church. The apartments have to be leased to an INDIVIDUAL. At the present time we have 7 apartments in this complex and I have discovered they are all leased to a missionary couple that no longer serves here. Some of them have been gone for years. The local leasing office made this decision. I told them if they wouldn't reconsider I would have to call corporate and talk to them. They said go right ahead. I talked to the Director of Operations of the corporation and he assured me they wanted our business and that he would call me back on Monday after he looks into this. So it looks like we may be moving. I don't believe any of the missionaries that have been released really want these apartment leases in their name.
Stopped for gas and groceries on the way home. Didn't get home till about 7:30. After we ate Bonnie has spent the evening getting things ready for those that will be coming by tomorrow night to say good bye to the Barretts. They leave a week from today. We have to fit seventeen people in here some way.  We finished pulling another pork roast tonight. We should have enough now for the pulled pork.
Well Bonnie is getting ready for bed so I had better quit for now. Love to all, and good night brother.

November 5, 2015

Bob: Pretty quiet day at the office. The Erickson's flew out to Salt Lake City at about 1:30 to attend her mother's funeral. They are planning on being back Monday afternoon. The A/P's are away on exchanges the rest of the week. Bonnie and Laura left around 3:30 so I had the place all to myself. No one showed up except a Staples driver with a small order. And then President and Sister Clayton showed up about 5:30. He brought the truck and cargo van back from North York.
Made some more headway on the text/phone report today. I think I have a final result of what we need. Now I need to figure out how to get the information for several companionships at a time. Thought of an idea on the way home so I am anxious to try it out tomorrow.
Bonnie is right about the weather. It is so nice. It will cool off this weekend but  not too bad. I just looked at the forecast for the next 10 days and it will be at least 49 or warmer every day. That's not too bad for us. It could be a lot whiter!!
Hope everyone is doing great. Love to all and good night brother.

Bonnie:  It's been a great day! I got home in time to cook another pork roast for our pulled pork sandwiches Saturday night and also do the wash. Today I completed three orders.  I ordered 22 boxes of Books of Mormon in English and 2 in Simplified Chinese and 1 each of Portuguese, Spanish  and French. We only have three boxes left of the English ones. I also ordered some specialty items and stuff from the Online Store. I hope it's quiet tomorrow and Monday as we try to run the office without the Erickson's. The big challenge will be getting all of the information for the convert baptisms correct before Saturday when they will come to the temple for the first time.
It's so warm outside, truly an Indian Summer here. I'm even warm in our apartment. I haven't been wearing any extra layers at the office, either. Apparently this will change as soon as Saturday, though. I love it!
May everyone have an Indian Summer, too, and enjoy the warm before the storm!

Mom/Bonnie

November 4, 2015

Bonnie:   It's about 9:30 pm and we just got back from taking a vehicle to President Clayton that he will return to some Elders tomorrow. MLC turned out well, though there were some mishaps along the way. When the ESL cards came today I was ecstatic that they arrived on time. Then, I saw that they had the wrong phone numbers on them! When I got around to calling them I found that it was their mistake. I made another order and they will not charge us for it. The only problem is that I don't know how I'm going to get them delivered to Ossington and to Weston very soon. Waffles went well. We had enough berries and whipping cream. The only issue I have is that two large packages were not picked up by the Zone Leaders. I was hoping to have all of the boxes out of the office foyer for awhile. Such is not to be, I guess. We receive large packages daily now. And I figure it will get worse the closer to Christmas it gets. I don't know where we will put 220 Christmas packages!
I felt much better today after having a full nights rest. Restful nights are important for my well-being, that's for sure. Tonight we "pulled" the pork in preparation for our special dinner Saturday. Then we decided that it won't be enough and bought another roast tonight on the way home from Clayton's. I will cook it tomorrow night and we'll have to pull it Friday night.
It's getting close to my bed-time so I will turn this missive over to Bob. Have a good night, everyone, and a wonderful day tomorrow!
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Waffle making went well. I cooked on two griddles and mixed up the batter as I went. Not bad since I couldn't spell waffle 6 months ago! Put a picture of the operation below.
I did have some success with the text report today. Gave the President a printout of my analysis of the companionship that had the most texts last month. He liked it and said that would be most useful. Now to find time to streamline the process so I can do a few companionships each month.
I thought I was going to have to take a car back to the Farsi Elders tomorrow and pick up our truck. Got a brain storm and had the Elders that drove it to the meeting today take it back once we loaded the needed items (5 chairs, a desk and dining table). Gave them an extra occasional table that matched the dining table. That should make the Sisters happy.
Did have a disgruntled landlord call today. Seems that she went and inspected the apartment we are renting from her. There are not any Elders in it right now as the area was closed during transfers on the 20th of October. She said the place was filthy and needed a good cleaning. I told her we would send a couple sets of Missionaries down to clean it up. Looked up who lived there last, but I got the wrong Elder. He was able to tell me who did live there though. Of those 2 Elders one had gone home. Called the other one and reported to him what the landlord had said. He immediately proclaimed they had cleaned it before leaving. Told him that he was probably going to have to 'raise his bar' for cleaning standards. Told him the Zone Leaders for the area he left would have to go clean it for him and that his present Zone Leaders would be around to check his apartment for cleanliness as I didn't want this to happen again. The 2 Zone Leaders going to check his apartment were more than happy to do that. In fact, they are 2 of the 4 that did an excellent job of cleaning out an apartment we just left on Bloor Street. President Clayton was all for having the Zone Leader take care of it. He said he needs to make all the Missionaries aware of how these situations will be handled. I don't think a whole lot of the Missionaries want to be the reason the Zone Leaders have to go clean up after them. We'll see how it works out.
Enough rambling for tonight. Hope everyone is enjoying your fall season. It is so nice and pleasant here right now. Love to all, and good night brother.

November 3, 2015

Bonnie: I didn't get much sleep last night so today was a harder day for me. We got the orders ready for MLC for the most part and that is wonderful. I just have to do some last minute things, such as get the men to move the boxes of Books of Mormon out for the zones that want them. I will also get the mail out to each zone, as well as the birthday candy bars tomorrow. We were done by about 4:30 today and I was exhausted. We decided to forgo Institute tonight and we went out for dinner to the Giggling Tomato instead. It was good and I didn't  have to go home and cook! Tomorrow we are responsible for the waffles so that will make things busy. Again, it is a good kind of busy. And I will be going to bed by 10:00 tonight so that will help.
The best part of the day came from my grandchildren. I got two pictures in the mail from Lori, a drawing by AJ of me when I danced with the Golden Girls and also a hand-print from Gwynn. I love it. And I also see from face-book that my grand-daughter Faith will be going to Paris, France with her Dad to the United Nations Climate Summit! How proud I am of her. What an opportunity! How proud I am of all my grand-children.
My love to all,
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Today wasn't too bad. Started at 8:30 and done at 6:00. Got about everything done except my Follow-Up list! Better check it the first thing in the morning. Probably wasn't anything urgent today, but one can't get too far behind. Did accomplish a good bit of work on the phone/text report. That project is making progress, but it is slow and tedious. Gave the President a report based upon his comments about the preliminary work. He said that it was something that would be helpful. Problem is it was only for one companionship. There wouldn't be enough time to do everyone. I guess we just work on the ones that are out of alignment with the average. Barely got started on the text report. I did find that the average number of texts by each set of missionaries is over 2000 per month!! The Bishops's Storehouse couple won the prize for the fewest, 2!! So tomorrow and any other chance I have I'll be working on the 2 companionships with the most texts, 7000 and 6600.
The Giggling Tomato was okay, but I don't rate it very highly. Not my intention to return.
One great thing about today is the temperature got almost to 70. And the temperatures till Friday are to be between 65 and 70.
Enough rambling. Everyone have a great day tomorrow. Love to all, and good night brother.

November 2, 2015

Bob: Just got home a very few minutes ago and it is 9:40. Had dinner with some of the other Seniors at Brother and Sister Luldows at 5:00. At 6:30 we left for FHE at the Stake Center. Stopped to pick up one of the YSA but she had already gone early to the Book of Mormon reading group party. They finished the Book of Mormon yesterday and so they celebrated tonight. We got there in time to participate, but we had already eaten. It was tempting though.
Found out some interesting news today. I am trying to rent another apartment in our building for an incoming couple. The leasing agent informed me today that they require the lease to be in the name of the tenant and not the name of the church. The church can be the guarantor, but not on the lease. That is a very interesting because the 7 apartments we have all in the name of someone who is no longer here! I told the agent we need to get that changed and she just didn't know what to do. She is going to check with some higher ups and get back. I am betting they don't call us back all week. I will keep you informed.
Well I'm going to close for the night. It has been a pleasant day with mild temperatures. Don't know how long these temperatures will hold out, but we are liking it. Love to everyone, and good night brother.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: It's been a nice day, but I'm glad to be home. Today I found out that I had goofed up the ESL business cards and had to order some more correct ones. I pray they get delivered by MLC. I don't know if they will. Tonight Bob presented Sister Ludlow with tickets to see "A Christmas Carol" and some money to use for a meal out. She loved it. I'm so glad we did it. Everyone pitched in to pay for it. She has put on Family Home Evening dinners for 25 years. That's a lot of food she and her husband have prepared and a lot of work they have done for senior missionaries. She is a special lady! We also met the Matheson's tonight. They are a new Temple couple from Cedar City. They seem very nice and will also be coming to our apartment Saturday night as we celebrate the Barrett's leaving us. I'm so sad to see the Barrett's go. They are incredible people who have served the Young Single Adults every day of their mission.
Well, I'm going to bed soon. Tomorrow we have to be to the office early to "train" a new Elder that has just come into the mission. Then, we will be preparing for MLC the rest of the day. If we get done in time we will go to Institute tomorrow night. We need to be prepared to do waffles on Wednesday, too, because it's our turn. The Erickson's will do the candy dish by the supply room for MLC.
I hope everyone has done something with family or friends tonight. Our relationships are the most important thing in this life, especially with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Parents!
My love to all,
Mom/Bonnie

Sunday 1 November 2015

November 1, 2015

Bonnie:  It's been a beautiful Sabbath. I love the Mormon Channel! We play it every Sunday and it's soothing to my soul. It was interesting today because soon after we started Sacrament Meeting the power went out. They opened the curtains and the doors so it helped some. After the meeting going to the washroom was not fun, however. It was totally dark. I had to literally feel my way around. Thankfully, the power came back on during Sunday School. I had nine appointments scheduled for the Bishop today. Three didn't show up, but there were lots of YSAs wanting to see the Bishop so he was busy.
We picked up three young women going to church and took one young woman and one young man home. It was nice because they live close by each other. This young woman is on a service mission and is from Belleville, Ontario. She serves in the garment Distribution Center and also helps with the temple laundry. It's a great mission for her.
Well, I have a very busy week ahead with MLC and a going-away party for Barrett's on Saturday, and spending all of Saturday afternoon in the temple helping with the  new convert baptisms. Sunday morning I will be making a casserole for the YSAs that day, and Monday I'm in charge of refreshments for FHE. It's the final Family Home Evening for the Barrett's and one of our sharp on-the-ball young men is in charge of it. He says it's a surprise when we asked him what he has planned. I can't wait to see what he comes up with!
I will let Bob finish with his thoughts for today. May we be prepared for what tomorrow brings as we all begin a new week!
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Today started off great with the clocks being set back an hour. I woke up about 7 anyway. But that was equal to 8 yesterday so it wasn't bad. After I got up my phone alarm went off later and woke up the First Mate. She didn't mutiny, but I detected some grumbling about an inconsiderate Captain. I guess I need to be more careful. Don't know why it went off as the only alarm I see is set for 5:45 am and it was set on off.
Testimony Meeting was really good. A couple got up for their very first time. They were very humble and emotional. You could tell they were speaking from their hearts. In fact, all of the YSA testimonies come from their hearts. They always have something faith promoting to say. They don't get into travel logs, etc.
We picked up 2 young ladies in Mississauga for church today, but they had another way home. So we took another young man, Ander, home. That was good because he just lived around the corner from Belinda, who we took both ways. I don't think I drove the shortest or quickest way from Belinda's to Mississauga. Oh well, I'm still trying to figure out the streets. It is not coming quickly.
Well I had better quit rambling and close. Love to all and good night brother.
