October 31, 2016

Bob: Trick or Treat!! Only one couple at our apartment door tonight, and they brought us candy!! Bonnie gave them homemade blueberry cobbler. Other than that it was an uneventful night. We had a first time appointment with Sister Laura Baxter scheduled, but she took ill. She asked that we call and reschedule it.
Swam this morning, and I was the only one in the pool. I figure the lifeguard was pretty bored watching me swim one lap after another. Ended up swimming 1650 meters, or 1.02 miles. That is my personal best so far.
Spent the afternoon with Brother and Sister Cushman. We brought them to New Liskeard so they could look at an apartment. They would like to move out of the nursing home, but they have several issues they need to work through. Don't know what they can do right now.
Well I'll close for now. Hope you had a great Halloween!! Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  Most of our day was spent helping the Cushman's look at apartments. It will be a challenge for them to be sure. We got home barely in time to start dinner for the missionaries, because I had to pick up some things from Walmart first. In fact, I put the missionaries to work as soon as they got here, one making the salad and one making guacamole.  Before dinner was done, the Cambridge's came to our door, with a bag of chocolate covered almonds! It's been a great Halloween!
We had a phone call from the  RS President who relayed  a message from another member that we are invited to an  American Thanksgiving at her house. So, now we have two invitations for that day. We'll try to work it out tomorrow, hopefully.
I hope everyone has had a Happy Halloween, with plenty of chocolate!

October 30, 2016

Bob: Not much happening today other than church. President Jakob released the Relief Society and Primary Presidents. He then called Sister Ng, the released Primary President, as the new Relief Society President. Bonnie remains as a Counselor in the Relief Society Presidency.
After church the new Relief Society Presidency wanted to have a 'short' meeting. Church was over at 1:30 and we ended up leaving between 3:30 and 4:00.
Snow is still holding off. Looking ahead there are no snow showers predicted until November 9th, the day we will be returning from Brampton. So all in all we are feeling pretty good right now about the weather.
Better sign off for now. Hope your weekend was good. Love to all.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  My talk went well, I think. I'm glad it's over! The new Relief Society President came to our meeting with a theme for our RS plus 8 goals she would like to see implemented. She will be quite a change, which will be a good thing. What is unfortunate is that both she and her new counselor will be out of town next Sunday, so I will be teaching a lesson on Visiting Teaching. It's a subject I love so I really don't mind. And the Sisters readily participate in the lessons.
We have a busy week because of two things: President Jakob wants to get in more wood for the winter and he has asked Bob and the Elders to help him on Wednesday. I will go, too, and bring in dinner for all of us, plus some for the next night. When his wife Patsy came today, she was still weak and tired. The only way she can take care of their foster daughters is with help, so that will be my job Wednesday. The second thing going on is another trip to Val D'Or to bring the Elders there a dresser and a chest of drawers. We have to borrow a truck from a member of the Branch. So, that will be Thursday or Friday. A third thing is that we will be bringing Cushman's down to look at an apartment tomorrow. We'll be putting lots of K's on the car this week!! But, it is all good.
I hope everyone had a delightful Sabbath today.

October 29, 2016

Bob: We were going to go cranberry picking with Brad this morning, but it was raining. We decided to wait till the afternoon. We arranged to meet between 1:15 - 1:30 and go. However, it was still drizzling just a little and cooler than we had expected. So we decided to wait till a drier day, but the temperature may be cooler. It was in the 40s today and didn't feel too bad except for the dampness.
I was able to go swimming today to make up for yesterday's absence. But I was limited by time so I didn't swim quite as far as normally.
Stopped by the common room today and found that the cable does have some college football games. Saw the end of WVU's loss to Oklahoma State. Saw a little of Penn State's drubbing of Purdue. There was another game on, but can't remember who it was.
Well it is time to go to bed. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  One thing to add about the missionaries in Val D'Or. They not only had to sleep on the floor, they had no lamps, so the only light in the apartment was an overhead kitchen light and the bathroom light. I guess they spent most of their time at the rented church building, where they had light and a kitchen where they could keep and prepare food.  It's a good thing that they live close to the church!
Not much to report today. I spent it doing the shopping, ironing and washing towels. Then, I worked on my talk for tomorrow. It's daunting to have to speak for 20 minutes! Wish me luck.
Love,
Mom/Bonnie

October 28, 2016

Bob: We went to Val-d'Or today to buy some furniture for the Elders. We got an electric range, refrigerator, 3 twin bed sets and a sofa. These were all new items. Then a Sister in the Branch took the Elders to a used furniture shop and bought a dining table and chairs plus lamps, occasional tables and some study tables. We went to Walmart and got various items they will need for the apartment. We left at 9:30 this morning and got home about 9:30.
We took the Elders to a member's restaurant. The Elders shared the big bowl of poutine below. Bonnie ordered a regular size dish of spaghetti shown below. We brought way over half of it home and plan to share it tomorrow night for dinner. I got a regular dish of poutine for myself. Didn't take a picture of it, but I ate the whole thing!! It was really quite good as the cheese was melted and the gravy was hot. Still feel full.
Time to go to bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: It's been a long day but a good one. It was interesting because we had prayed for a missionary experience and had one with the Elders. They invited us to a discussion this afternoon with a recent convert. We went in and she was there with her cousin, who had some questions about different things associated with what we believe. It was a good conversation and we enjoyed being part of it. It sounds like she will be attending church Sunday with her cousin!
In the picture of the spaghetti I ordered, it doesn't look as big as it really was. It will be ample for our meal tomorrow night.
Good night to all of our readers,
Love, Mom/Bonnie

October 27, 2016

Bonnie:  We finally reached one of our less-actives tonight, one we missed earlier today. He is working now, and is not home until the evening. We'll have a longer conversation probably Sunday night. We also visited Roxanne today and had a very nice discussion. Then, we spent much of the day writing up our Teaching Records. We should have been doing this all along, but again, we weren't trained as MLS missionaries. Then, Bob got a call from  Elder Wolfley at the Mission Office about an apartment problem. It looks like we are going to Val D'Or, Quebec tomorrow to get furniture for an apartment. It is now a threesome there. I will let him write the details.
Sleep tight, everyone and be happy that we are not sleeping on the floor like the three Elders in Val D'Or!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Furniture was ordered from 'The Brick' for the apartment. Due to some mix up the furniture was shipped from Montreal to Quebec City, which is about 3 hours east of Montreal. It should have been shipped to Val d'Or, which is about 5 hours north and slightly west of Montreal. Now The Brick is refusing to correct the problem. So Elder Wolfley cancelled the order and we are going to Val d'Or tomorrow to buy the furniture locally. Probably should have done this in the first place, but we learn as we go. Going to try and rent a truck tomorrow to haul the items from the store to the apartment.
Other than that Bonnie explained the day pretty well.
Hope you have had a great day. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Wednesday 26 October 2016

October 26, 2016

Bob: Been a cold and hectic day. We ended up going to Englehart to pick up food from the sisters in Kirkland Lake. Then we took the food to the Jakobs because Patsy got home from the  hospital yesterday. After visiting with her for a few minutes we went back to Englehart to visit with the Cushman's.
Tonight we paid our weekly visit to the Villneffs. That went about like our other visits. We did offer to pick Margaret up and take her to church. We'll see come Saturday.
The contractor is still installing new tile in the hallway. There is some dust and often times one or more exits are blocked. Tonight we had to enter the Maintenance Room from outside to get to our hallway and then to our door.
Better get to bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: Bob has summarized our day very well. The Sisters in Kirkland Lake were very generous with their meals for the Jakob's. There were two large casseroles, plus some store-made frozen meals, (about four of them), plus spaghetti sauce, plus several bags of frozen vegetables, plus lots of canned goods--soups, especially, plus spaghetti noodles and a whole chicken right out of the oven. The food should last them a whole week, and then some. Patsy said that this was the first time they had received food from the Branch, ever! I'm so glad I asked them to do it.
May we also be as generous in the future as we are called upon to serve others!!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: A wise man once said: Service takes time and sacrifice; it is not always convenient.

Tuesday 25 October 2016

October 25, 2016

Bob: We had to be at the Family History Center by 11 this morning because a non-member couple was going to be there. We got there about 5 minutes early and they were waiting for us. The Elders and Sister Margetson helped them with what they were looking for. Brother Cambridge and I worked on the membership records.
We went to see Donna Craig this afternoon. She is still somewhat sad about having to sell her house, etc., but she looked the best today she has in a long time. She was completely dressed with shoes and someone had done her hair and her nails. Her daughter came while we were there and she commented about how nice her mother looked.
Activity night was tonight. We had 3 new people, including 2 non-members that came with Delaney. We played the Great Dalmuti and I think everyone had fun.
Received some sad news this evening. My long time friend and co-worker, Ron Wilson, passed away yesterday. So sad to hear this. He was a great friend.
Time for bed. Got to get up early and go swimming. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: We  had a missionary experience today when we went to Wendy's. We have given a  Book of Mormon to one of the workers there, and she remembered us. She talked about reading some of the Book of Mormon as she compared it to other scripture.  She said it read like the Bible, although some of the words were more difficult. Then, she talked about some of the challenges in her life. We plan on going back to encourage her to read more of it. The other thing that happened was that we ran into Roxanne at Walmart. She wants to come back to our  Activity Night next week. That will be great.
It's been a very good day, especially playing the Great Dalmuti at our Activity Night. It's a fun game!
May we all have some kind of fun this week!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Tonight at 9:00

Monday 24 October 2016

October 24, 2016

Bonnie:  It's been a long, but good day. We stayed at Jakob's house last night, hence no blog report. We needed to help get the three foster children of the Jakob's off to school this morning and then be there when the bus let them off at 3:30. So, we did a lot of reading and watched two Murdock Mysteries, and went for a 20 minute walk with Daisy, their dog. It would have been a longer walk, except that the weather was very cold. I provided dinner and also did some wash. President Jakob thought he would be back by 3:30, but he didn't get home until about 7:00! I was trying to have a short FHE, but one of the little girls was absolutely hyper so we didn't get very far.
Yesterday was a great Sabbath. The talk in Sacrament Meeting was superb. There were three less-active members there, too, as well as our friends, the Cannon's. After church there was a RS meeting with Sister Newton, the Stake RS President. It was quite informative. I'm so glad we had it. Then, I prepared dinner for the Cannon's and the Elders. As soon as they left, we headed up to Elk Lake to the Jakob's.
I hope it's warmer tomorrow, or at least not as windy. And I hope the sun is out!!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: It was quite cold today in Elk Lake. Some snow flurries did come down, but there wasn't any accumulation. We were at Jakob's for just short of 24 hours. They heat primarily with wood and keep the house very warm. When we got home our place felt like it was cold even thought the thermostat is set on 75!
Will have to go for a long walk tomorrow as I didn't swim or walk long today. Also, we have to take Sister Margetson to the chapel tomorrow at 11:00 so she can open the Family History Unit up for some investigators. Then we have to get ready for Activity Night. Wednesday night is the end of the month pot luck for the apartment complex. Got a couple busy days coming up.
Better get to bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Saturday 22 October 2016

October 22, 2016

Bonnie: Our day with  Cannon's was quite fun. We started with a tour of the area, going down Dawson's Point Road along Lake Temiskaming and then north through the farmland and wooded areas. Then, we  headed south to the Cobalt Military Museum for a tour. There is much to see there. After that, we took in the sites of the Cobalt Mining Driving Tour. We saw several sites out of the 20 that are available. Then, we went out for dinner at Zante's, finishing the night playing dominos and eating blueberry pie. It was a nice relaxing day, although the weather was cold, especially with the wind blowing. Tomorrow I will wear  some extra layers of warm clothing!
May we all have a wonderful  Sabbath Day tomorrow.
Love Mom/Bonnie

Bob: It has been a fun and relaxing day. We ate lunch at Granny's Chipper. There is a picture below. Also, since we have the apartment cleaned and in order we thought we would add some pictures of it plus a couple others.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Love to all and good night brothers.

October 21, 2016

Bob: Swam a personal best of 27 laps this morning. My goal is 34 or 1700 meters. Had to get a new bathing suit today as my other one is about paper thin, I got a Speedo. I wonder if I'll swim faster in it?
We had Meals on Wheels today. We delivered to Olga and Lois. They are regular clients.
Cannons got here around 6:00. Bonnie prepared chicken parmigiana. Very delicious. Then we topped it off with homemade blueberry pie!! I am still full.
Plans are to go on a short walk in the morning with Elder Cannon and then he wants to visit The Bunker, a local military museum in Cobalt. We can also take them on the driving tour of the silver mining sites. Doubt that we'll leave Cobalt tomorrow.
Better get to bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: I must explain about Bob's Speedo! There's more to it than you might think! It goes almost to his knees. He really needed a new swimming suit. The other one is very thin.
Today I spent the day getting ready for the visit of the  Cannon's. Everything seemed to work out well tonight. I hope the weather is good so we can have a fun day with them tomorrow.
Good night, everyone!

Thursday 20 October 2016

October 20, 2016

Bob: We tried to find John Evans again, but no success. He wasn't home again. Left him another card and a voice mail. The last time we were there he mentioned he thought he would try to find some kind of job. He has been on total disability for some time, so that would be quite a change for him. And with his bad back there isn't much he can do. We are hoping that maybe he has found something and that's why he isn't home.
Went to visit Donna in the nursing home. She said she hates it! The nursing home was celebrating its 35th birthday today and they had entertainment and dessert for all the residents and visitors. The owner was there shaking hands, etc. Donna's spirits did seem to pick up the longer we stayed and she didn't seem to mind going to dinner when it was time.
We didn't get the appointment in Kirkland Lake we thought we would tonight. May get to bed early for a change. We have watched our Murdoch Mysteries for the night and after the blog we can retire.
Below are some pictures I took today. The first one explains the site and the other 2 are pictures of the Wabi River. Mr. Farah tried to dam the river to make his power plant I believe.
Better get to bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  I spent the evening making another blueberry pie for our friends, the Cannons, who will be here tomorrow afternoon. They work in the mission office as the "medical" advisers for the missionaries. They will be here all weekend so we have planned some things they might like to do. Their biggest desire is to see the Northern Lights, but that is chancy at best. We understand from the locals that you need to go farther north and watch for them in the middle of the night. There also cannot be clouds in the sky.
This weekend the Stake Relief  Society President will also be visiting our Branch. We have a meeting scheduled for after church. This would normally be fine, but I want to have a big dinner for the Cannons and our  Branch Elders after church. Oh, well. It will all work out.
May everyone have a wonderful day tomorrow. Let's enjoy the fall colors!!

October 19, 2016

Bob: Not much going on today. I worked with Brother Cambridge on the membership records for quite a while. We entered all new information that Bonnie and I had found during our contacts. I'll let Bonnie tell you about her day.
Tonight we visited with the Villneff's. Got Norm to say that when he feels the need he will be baptized, but he doesn't feel the need right now. I told him I wrote that down and will check with him occasionally to see if that day has arrived!!
We are into our 7th season of Murdoch Mysteries. We watched number 2 of 18 episodes this evening. There is an 8th season at the library. We should be through this by the end of November.
Talked to President Jakob tonight and asked him if there was anything I could help him with. He said he wants to go back and get a final load of wood!! We'll try and do that next week. We'll get the Elders to help us with that!
Better go now. Love to all and good night brothers.

Bonnie:  Sister Cambridge and I made some food to give to the Jakob family because of Sister Jakob's strokes. She is still in the hospital. We met her daughter and her sister-in-law today to give them the food. Then, we visited another sister that Sister Cambridge cares for. We spent several hours helping her get to a lab for blood work. This sister is on oxygen and uses a cane and a walker to get around.
I enjoyed our conversation with Brother Villneff, although he can be frustrating at times. Unless he feels like the Savior is talking directly to him telling him to do something he will not do it. And he does not feel the need to ask. He is a good, Christian man. Oh well, we are doing our best. At least they let us visit every week.
I hope everyone has had a glorious day. The weather has been wonderful so far, but I think it is supposed to be changing soon. I wish this weather would last forever!

Tuesday 18 October 2016

October 18, 2016

Bonnie:  It's almost 10:00 and Bob is doing the dishes as I write this. We picked up three people for Activity Night and we just got back from taking everyone home. We had a good evening, with Bob's message about prayer and a great video. The games were fun, although I didn't do very well playing Scrabble. It's been years since I have played it.
Today Nicole and I went visiting teaching. She thought we didn't have to call Karol because she is in a nursing home. When we got there, she and  Warren were out walking! We missed them, obviously. The other reason we were there in Englehart was to see the Branch President's wife. She has had two mini-strokes and is in the hospital. Hopefully, another sister in the  Branch and I will be taking them some meals tomorrow. I am waiting for her call. Sister Jakob was better than I expected but there are some important things she needs to do to help her have better health. She may live with her daughter, who is a nurse, down south for awhile until her body is in better shape.
Have a good night, everyone!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Looks like Bonnie has about covered everything. Activity Night was a fun time. I 'officiated' a game of Mexican Train. Some of them are having a hard time picking up the rules, but they seem to enjoy it even so.
Don't know exactly what I'll do tomorrow while Bonnie is gone to Elk Lake. The weather was wet for part of the day, but the temperature was great. It was 65 when we got up. The locals are all amazed at the mild fall we are having. They don't realize how hard Sister Martin and Sister Backus are praying for mild temperatures!!
One good thing happened today. Our 2015 tax refund from the IRS showed up in the bank today. Still waiting on Utah though.
Got to run. Love to all and good night brothers.
Bob/Dad

Monday 17 October 2016

October 17, 2016

Bob: Well Donna Craig was moved from the hospital to 'The Lodge,' a nursing home just down the street from us. She was supposed to be there at 10:00. We didn't think she would be there that quickly so we went over at 11:00. She still wasn't there, but Randy, her son, and Wendy, her daughter, were there. Randy was moving her tilt chair, TV and motorized scooter into the building. I was able to help him with the TV and scooter.
Then, we called upon a couple of others after that, but they weren't home. We went back to see Donna about 4:00 and she was there. She was in pretty good spirits, but it will probably take her some time to get used to being there. She misses her home and her dog, but they are gone from her. Thankfully, her daughter has the dog and should be able to bring her around occasionally.
Time for bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: It's been an interesting day. I am really happy that Donna has been moved. Now, she can have some permanency. At least, a nursing home is better than the hospital.
Tomorrow I will be doing some visiting teaching, which will put some kilometers on the car. But, at least I have a partner to go with  me. And we will be having Activity Night tomorrow night, and the great news it that one of our less-actives will be attending!! I'm very excited. Bob will plan the thought while I am gone. And I made a pumpkin "snack" cake today for treats. We will let you know how everything turns out in our blog.
Happy Fall, everyone. I hope it's as beautiful where you are as it is here!
Love Mom/Bonnie

Sunday 16 October 2016

October 16, 2016

Bonnie:  We had a nice visit with  Donna at the hospital tonight. She will finally be moved to a nursing home tomorrow! I think she is excited, although it is hard to tell with her. Her daughter will get her over there in the morning, and then we will visit to help her get settled in. Bob and Brad also brought the sacrament in to Sister Huywan. She is a very special lady, at 95 years old. She said  her grandson-in-law told  her that she has to stay around until she is 100 so she can receive a letter from the Queen of England and the Prime Minister of Canada! I hope she can, because she is very deserving of the recognition.
My lesson went well and a teacher was called today during church, which makes me happy. It's been a good Sabbath.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Not much to add. Bonnie has summed the day's activities well. We will be heading back to Kirkland Lake on Thursday this week. It is a long trip and seems to get longer and longer.
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Love to all and good night brothers.

October 15. 2016

Bob: Went to Larder Lake today to visit 4 people. We only got to see 1 of them. Two others were not home. In fact, the mother of one of them said her daughter has moved away. The final couple never answered their phone.
Weather wasn't too bad today, but I thought I would get a pair of snow boots for the winter. Found a pair of boots that were marked 'waterproof'. Asked the cashier about returning them if they proved not to be waterproof. She informed me that once the shoes are worn they cannot be returned. She said 'We cannot guaranteed the manufacturer's claims'. Needless to say I did not buy the boots.
We invited 3 people to dinner tomorrow, but all 3 'are engaged' elsewhere.
Time for bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: Tonight I met with the Relief Society President for a brief time. There is lots to discuss, especially with the visiting teaching. We want to plan an activity for the sisters in the Branch in November, too. She already has most of the stuff we need so that will work out well. After meeting with her, I spent the evening working on the lesson I am giving tomorrow. A member of the Stake Presidency will be speaking to us, too. That will be wonderful. In fact, he is the son of one of our active couples here. It will be a very good Sabbath Day.
Hopefully, it will be a wonderful Sabbath Day for all of us!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Friday 14 October 2016

October 14, 2016

Bob: Swam this morning. Was able to increase my distance to 25 laps or 1250 meters. In Utah I swam 1650 meters so that is my goal. Have till the end of February.
Tried visiting some less actives today. Did get to talk to two of them. One was Conrad and we invited him to dinner on Sunday or Monday, his choice. He is reluctant to schedule as he might have to work, but we insisted. We'll see how it goes.
We are heading to Larder Lake and surrounding area tomorrow. Won't stay real late as we have to be home for Bonnie to meet with the Relief Society President at 6:30.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: I hope to be home by 5:30, the latest tomorrow night. We have the chance to see four people tomorrow, if we can track down one sister who may or may not be in the area. I pray that it works out well. I also have been asked to teach Relief  Society Sunday, so I need time to prepare the lesson tomorrow evening.
Tonight was fun with two YSAs making dinner for us and the Elders at Brad's house. They had to cook without an oven, no less! We had enchiladas made in a crock pot, plus the other fixings that go with a Mexican meal--rice and beans, etc. Very good. And we had pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. It was really fun to watch the Elders do the dishes with the two young adult girls drying and putting stuff away in a rather small kitchen. We had some interesting conversations, especially about politics. The Canadians are very much in to the election this year and had many questions about the two big contenders for President.
I hope for a great "missionary" day tomorrow.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Thursday 13 October 2016

October 13, 2016

Bonnie:  We have had a gratifying day in Kirkland Lake. In one visit, we got invited to an American Thanksgiving dinner, providing that I cook the turkey on sight at Bro. Dale's apartment, and bring stuffing and potatoes! Wow! How did we get talked in to that? We also were able to talk to a less-active member, finally. We  had a delicious dinner and did some home-teaching. At the end of our day, we met a very special senior who volunteers with the police department as a helper with women and children in trouble. She is an awesome investigator who has invited us back. I will let Bob add his remarks and close for now.
Good night and sleep tight.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: A long day for sure. We left for our first home teaching appointment at 10:30 this morning and we got home at 10:00 tonight. Besides the people we met we also stopped at the library and obtained permission to hold a genealogy seminar there. Now we need to get someone who can conduct it!! We can probably do an indexing seminar, but that would be about it. We'll cross that bridge down the line.
Took the photo below as we were arriving home. I think it is ice shavings from a hockey rink. However, it did spit snow for a minute today while we were in Kirkland Lake. Temperature was in the low 30s. Got to dig out my coat in the morning.
Hope you had a great day. Love to all and good night brothers.

What is this????

Wednesday 12 October 2016

October 12, 2016

Bonnie:   Today is quite the week for being invited out to eat! We were just getting home after delivering our Meals on Wheels when we got a phone call from Sister Margetson inviting us to her home to eat. We had about 15 minutes to get there. She is from England and was making fish and chips, with cole slaw. We made it on time, and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.  This week we are eating out at the home of members Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday! It's quite the record for us.
Today we also found the home of a less-active man that we have been trying to find for weeks. Now the trick will be finding him at home!
Tomorrow will be a long day in Kirkland Lake. We have many people to see, and because the young Elders will also be there, we will have to coordinate with them.
May everyone have a wonderful day tomorrow.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Not much to add except I got the oil changed in the car today. I previously had it changed in July at a cost of almost 150.00. Seems all the garages use Pennzoil and I wanted Valvoline. This time I bought the oil in the US for $25 for 5 quarts. Another garage charged me 21.63 today to change it since I had the oil and filter. Live and learn!!
I went swimming today. I don't know if it was the swimming or the low blood reading this morning (81), but I was tired most of the day. After a big bowl of ice cream this afternoon I am beginning to feel better.
Time for bed. Love to all and good night brothers.

Bob: It is 11:02 PM and Bonnie is fretting about the lateness. It seems our evening activities keep us up way too late, but we can't seem to find an answer as to how to cut it short.
As we were getting ready this morning Sister Cushman called. We had to go to Englehart to pick her up and take her to New Liskeard. She and her husband are having some problems with the Canadian Tax Department. I am afraid we were not much help because we never did get to speak to the people who could answer her questions. Her social worker will have to get involved.
Activity Night was sparsely attended tonight. I am afraid the Thanksgiving holiday kept some away and others did not come. However, those who were there had a good time.
Well, time for bed. I'll be going back to the pool tomorrow. Love to all and good night brothers.

Bonnie:  We were happy to spend time with Karol. I just wish we were able to be more help. When we finally got the right number she was supposedly to call, we tried 7 times and each time it was busy. Then when we got back to the nursing home, the social worker told us they had already talked to Canada  Revenue which was the number she had been calling. Isn't government wonderful?
One neat thing happened when we took Karol to Wendy's. One of the workers there saw my name badge and asked about our church. She said she was looking at several different Bibles and churches. I told her we used the King James version and that we also used another book of scripture, the Book of Mormon. She said she would like to read it, so I gave her one, and a mormon.org card with our name and number. She said she would call if she has any questions. I hope she does!
Hopefully, tomorrow will be a great day and we will get to see some less-actives.
Have a wonderful night, everyone.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

October 10, 2016

Bonnie:  We just got back from our Thanksgiving with the Villneff's. It was delicious. They served ham as well as turkey, plus two kinds of dressing plus fresh and cooked vegetables. And, there were lots of things to drink, too. There were three kinds of pie, plus the pumpkin bread I made. So, it's been a great day. Margaret would like to come back to church, but it's her husband that is reticent. He's a good man, though, very kind and an excellent host. They lost their disabled son at age 16, and have been less-active ever since. We have high hopes for them.
Hopefully, everyone else has had a good day, too!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Bob: Not much else to add. We did go for a walk this morning. Temperature per the computer said '31'!! Bonnie didn't complain about the cold, but walking uphill helped to warm her up I think. She went home in 30 minutes while I walked an additional 35 minutes.
Better get to bed. Have several things to do tomorrow and I want to start early. I did get my 2015 Income Tax filed on Friday. Waiting on the refund now.
Hope you had a wonderful day. Love to all and good night brothers.

October 9, 2016

Bob: Noticeably cooled today. The high today, 44, was yesterday's low. However, when we left church around 2:30 it didn't seem that cold out. I believe the highs will be in the 50's all week.
Our furnace just kicked on and it's set on 75. That's the 2nd time since we got home that it has run.
Bonnie and I had speaking assignments today. She worried and spent several hours putting it together. Last night I sat down and put on paper some thoughts I had and asked her to let me go first. I thought I might use up about all the time and she wouldn't have to speak. I talked to the Branch President and told him Bonnie had a 10 minute talk, but I might use up most of the time. I suggested that if I was just a little short he could stand up and say something about Thanksgiving. Sacrament ends at 11:45 and I talked till about 11:48. So I was able to get her out of speaking today. That should repay some of my past errors.
It's very late so I will end now. Hope you had a great weekend. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  I went prepared to speak today and then, as Bob wrote, he took up more than enough time. I'm sure I will have to give the talk sometime soon.
I spent a good part of the evening cooking for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow at Villneff's. I'm bringing a mashed potato casserole, which I made tonight, and two desserts--pumpkin bread and a pecan pie. The bread is done and I will make the pie tomorrow. The Elders will also be there so it will be a nice group. It seems odd to be celebrating so early. I will make an American Thanksgiving dinner the end of November for the Elders who are all from the States. I will enjoy that!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a Happy Sabbath.
Love, Mom/Bonnie

PS: The Blue Jays are moving on!!

October 7, 2016

Bob: Planned on starting the day off with a swim. On Fridays the pool opens at 8 and has a public swim till 10. But they decided to change their schedule today!! I got there after 8 because it took me quite a while to get ready this morning. Once I got to the the pool I found out the public swim was only till 9 today. Thus I couldn't go swimming.
Yesterday's service project with President Jakob wore me out! And when I woke up this morning I was so tired and my blood sugar was way low. After getting something to eat and knowing Bonnie wanted to do the shopping, I had her drop me off at the pool at 10:00. I was able to get my laps in, but it tired me out.
In the afternoon we went to see Sister Roxanne LaPointe. We have been referring to her as Sister Wilson, but she has taken back her maiden name after her divorce. Bonnie was very patient with her and invited her to read the Book of Mormon beginning with chapter 11 in 3rd Nephi. She said she would try. We'll check on her next week.
On the way back I stopped at the NAPA garage and asked about a gasket for the oil drain plug. They told me they would change my oil for the price of the labor since they don't use the brand I have and I have bought the oil. So it looks like I'll be stopping in there next week to get it done.
We then delivered a couple meals for Meals on Wheels. Bonnie spent a lot of time talking to Olga while I went back to make sure they had given us the correct meal for her. She is diabetic and the meal was not marked as such. Turned out okay though.
When we got home I had to lie down as I wasn't feeling well. After a short nap and some chili things began to get better.
It is now time to retire. Hope you have a great weekend. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  Bob has done a nice job of recounting our day. The only other thing I did today was to start on my talk for Sunday. It was quite good to visit with Roxanne, too. She is currently attending church with her brother, but really wants to know which is the right Church. I hope we can help her with that!
Have a great week-end, everyone!

October 6, 2016

Bob:  We went to Karl and Patsy's today. I left with Karl around 9:15 to go get a load of firewood. He cut the wood with a 24" chain saw while I collected it at the trailer and then stacked it in the trailer. It probably took us about 3 1/2 hours to get this loaded.
Once we got back to the house he and I went out in the boat to see if the fish will bite better in the cooler weather. To our amazement the pike were very active today. By about 4:45 we had caught about a dozen pike and one walleye. We threw all the pike back, including one Karl caught that was close to 28 - 30 inches. I think he had made up his mind he didn't want to clean any fish. But we did keep the walleye. It would make a small meal for Bonnie and I, but we left it at their house.
Right now I am so tired I must go to bed. My legs, back and right elbow are all sore. We were using a bar to raise the logs off the ground for cutting. One of the logs shifted and flipped the bar which hit me in the elbow. If the bar had hit me in the head it might have been a very bad thing!
Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: It was a quiet day for Patsy and I. She is still getting over the flu. We went to the garden and dug up some carrots for dinner. We gave the carrots and potatoes a good washing and then cooked them for dinner, along with a roast. I'm glad I brought some brownies because it is Karl's birthday today! It made for a nice dessert.
It's time for bed so I'll close. Have a good evening!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

October 5, 2016

Bonnie and Bob:  We visited with the Villneff's tonight. We always enjoy seeing them.  Norm showed Bob a little path he called "Lover's Lane"!  I wish I had gone with him!! Towards the end of our visit they invited us over for the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday which is Monday. I am to bring potatoes and possibly a pie. The Elders are invited, too, if they don't  have another place to go.  The only other thing I did today was to begin work on my talk for Sunday.
Tomorrow we will be in Elk Lake all day so Bob can help the Branch President cut wood for the winter. I'm glad we are going because Patsy has been sick and maybe I can help her do some things around the house. It should turn out to be a very good day.
Good night, everyone. Our love to all and good night brothers.

Tuesday 4 October 2016

October 4, 2016

Bob: Bonnie and I walked this morning for about 30 minutes and then I went for another 30. The weather was cool this morning. Fall seems to be in the air, although it should be close to 70 tomorrow. When we got up this morning our internet was down and I couldn't get the local temps.
The internet repairman came around and said there has to be something wrong in our apartment. He checked the monitor for our connection and said we were getting over a 1000 T4 errors per day. A single T4 error is rare he said. When he took the old cable out he said the installer had used the wrong type of staples to tack the cable down. Metal staples instead of plastic were used. He explained that the metal can penetrate the cable wire and arc the copper wire inside thus disrupting the signal. He also replaced the modem and now everything seems to be fine. Asked him about sharing a message with him about eternal families, but he wouldn't do so.
Went to Englehart to see Sister Cushman as she had a slight heart attack. She is back in the nursing home and seems to be healing okay.
Stopped at three other places. Spouses were home at two of them, but we didn't get to see the actual member. Mr. Duffy said we could come back. The other spouse said that her husband is working above Timmins  and won't be home for at least a couple more weeks.
Activity night went really well. We played 'The Great Dalmuti' and every one seemed to enjoy it.
Time for bed. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie: We saw some beautiful country today, with the rich fall colors beginning to show themselves. Really a lovely day.
At Activity Night we had some first-timers, a single sister and a couple. We think they had a good time. Sister Margetson is the Poet Laureate of Cobalt. We began by talking about the parable of the talents, and what it means, and then Ann talked about poetry and shared some poems of hers. We ended the discussion by writing our own haiku poems and sharing them with each other. Then we played the "Great Dalmuti". It was a blast to see the Elders wearing Ann's hat! She brought one of her Red Hat Society hats--full of flowers and other ornaments in purples and reds. There were some other fun hats, too. We have two single adults that are regular attenders, which is wonderful. All in all it was an enjoyable time.
Sleep well everyone. May tomorrow bring blessings to all of us!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Monday 3 October 2016

October 3, 2016

Bob: I went swimming this morning while Bonnie did her usual morning activities. In the afternoon she got the apartment ready for our dinner guests. We had 5 Elders, Tom Cambridge, Brad and Kayla Sauve, and Donna Craig over. Brad brought a kettle of corn chowder and Tom brought a bunch of fried chicken. Donna can barely walk so she had a hard time getting to our apartment. There is an elevator, but she is afraid of them!! We brought her through the Temiskaming Home Support offices with Norm's help. He is the assistant to the onsite manager. He didn't know if we should do it, but we didn't have a choice. Donna cannot go up or down stairs. Once we started in with her she almost panicked because we had to go through some hallways that did not have any windows. We finally got her to the apartment and with the windows she was able to relax. She took some nerve medicine before leaving and it seemed to help. She didn't have any problems leaving.
That's about it for the day, although President Jakob called and asked us to speak this coming Sunday. Made our day!!
Time to retire. Love to all and good night brothers.
Dad/Bob

Bonnie:  Talk about being panicked, we had 11 for dinner and I have barely enough plates, glasses and flatware for 8! It all worked out OK because I had some paper products and we washed spoons before we ate dessert. It was nice because Kayla and one of the Elders washed many of the dishes. That really helped.  And the extra food was great, too. I'm glad we did it.
The other important thing we did, was to go through each name on the Branch roster and talk about what we need to do next to further the missionary work. We have much to do. With the Lord's help we can do it, that I know.
We hope all of you have a good evening and an even better day tomorrow than you had today!
Love, Mom/Bonnie

Sunday 2 October 2016

October 2, 2016

Bonnie and Bob: We've had a long, though wonderful, Sabbath. We left this morning about 6:45, made a stop at the church to pick up all of the French songbooks (which someone else had already taken) and arrived at Val D'Or about 9:30. There were quite a few people there, including several from our Temiskaming Branch. The new Branch Presidency was called and set apart, then there was a testimony meeting and then we watched the first session of Conference. The French Saints watched Conference in another room so they could hear it in their language. Before our Pot Luck dinner the new Relief Society President and Primary President were also called and set apart. We had a delicious dinner and then many of the Branch had to return home. Bob and I and the missionaries and maybe three others stayed for the second session of Conference. We left about 6:15 and were home by about 9:00. What is interesting is that one of the missionaries has been called to be the second counselor in the Branch Presidency.  I'm sure he will do an excellent job. This was a very special day for this newly formed Abitibe Branch in Quebec.
We so enjoyed Conference! I can't wait to read the talks again. I am so thankful for a prophet and the other 14 Apostles.
Let's have a wonderful week, everyone!
Love, Mom/Bonnie,

Bonnie has said it all. Love to all and good night brothers.

October 1, 2016

Bob: Not much going on today other than conference. Unfortunately, none of the people we delivered the conference invitations to showed up today. Maybe tomorrow though. However, we will be in Quebec for conference. We are leaving here at 6:45 as there will be a special Branch Creation Meeting at 10:00 tomorrow morning.
I thought conference was pretty special today. The women of the church, however, will probably be disappointed because they will not get to hear from Elder Holland as he spoke in Priesthood Meeting. His talk was my favorite. I would not be surprised if Elders Quorum home teaching statistics take a significant spike upwards the next couple of months.
Time to retire. Love to all and good night brothers. Bonnie sends her love, but must go to bed now.
