Bob: Not too much to report today. This afternoon we went to visit the Cushman's. We're not sure why, but Warren got very upset. He is on some anti-anxiety medicine so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. His wife said to give him some time. We'll see.
Been calling people and making plans for the party tomorrow night. I think most of the members have been contacted. Looking forward to it.

Bob/Bonnie: Sorry about not posting last night. Bonnie went to bed early and I set up finishing the book I was reading, The Woman in White. Totally forgot to post something. We did go to the monthly pot luck for the apartment building last night. We had a small crowd, but it was nice. Lots of friendly people to talk with. Also, delivered Meals on Wheels yesterday.
Not too much accomplished today. When we got up this morning Bonnie was sick. She had to stay around the apartment most of the day. She began to feel better in the afternoon and we then had the Elders over for potato soup. Since it was just leftovers, the meal did not take too much energy to prepare.
Bonnie just said she is feeling better, but still has a slight stomach ache. She spent much of the day preparing her lesson for Relief Society on Sunday. She and I will probably both be teaching then.
I managed to get to the library today to return books, check out a new book for Bonnie and renew our Murdoch Mysteries DVD. We are on the 9th season with 5 remaining episodes. Season 10 is now airing on TV. I also faxed some information to Ottawa for a single sister in the Branch who needed it to get a passport for her daughter. I'm glad we were home so I could do that for her.
Talked with Brother Sauve and President Jakob. The Branch is going to have a New Years Eve party beginning at 8:00 pm. We plan on making waffles, playing games and enjoying each other's company.

Bonnie: Today we spent time helping Sister Benn by cleaning out a corner of her shop to make room for boxes and boxes of spring and summer clothing. Then we sorted through several boxes of hangers. It felt good to help her out. She gave us a collectors plate with a tiny easel as a remembrance for our mission to Canada. We visited with her husband afterwards. By this time it was late afternoon, so we went back to the apartment. After dinner, we had a visit with Donna at the nursing home. She seemed quite happy and said she had had an enjoyable Christmas with her family. All in all, it has been a good day.

Bob: Bonnie has covered everything quite well. At the end of our visit with Donna, Bonnie asked her if there was anything we might do for her. Bob: The weather wasn't as bad today as predicted. We did get a little freezing rain, but it didn't last too long. The highway crews were all over it and salted the roads immediately. With the temperature rising and the salt, the ice quickly dissipated. The present temperature outside is 40 degrees and Lindon is 19 per weather.com.
We went to the Branch today to wash the dishes from yesterday's meal. However, there still wasn't much water. We were fortunate enough to get the amount needed to finish the dishes though. When we left there was barely a trickle coming out the faucet. I called the people that put in our water supply system. There is a digital readout on the wall that says '68'. The technician told me to unplug the digital device and the system might reset. If it doesn't he will call us after January 10th when he returns to Canada!! He said he does not have anyone qualified, except himself, to troubleshoot the equipment and fix the problem. I relayed this information to the PF people. If it doesn't reset we won't have any services in the building the next 2 weeks.
That is about it for the day. We should be busier tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great day. Love to all and good night brothers.

Bonnie: After we did the dishes and cleaned the bathrooms at church we went to Wendy's for a snack. We wanted to see our friend Cathy who works there. We had a nice visit.
Tomorrow we will be gong to Latchford to help Sister Benn at her consignment shop. Then, we will be making a few more stops.
By the way, today is Boxing Day, which is a holiday for Canadians. Apparently, it started in England. Children boxed up their old toys and put them outside on the curb for those children who did not get any. Now, it's basically a commercial holiday, with people returning and/or exchanging gifts. It wasn't busy around town because of the weather, though. This morning was a good time to be indoors!

Bonnie: We've had a wonderful Christmas day today. We picked up a less-active man for sacrament meeting today, enjoyed our service and then were fed a delicious dinner afterwards. We were very spoiled by some of the members of our Branch. Bob was given a back scratcher and me some very warm and thick socks. The Relief Society President gave us a ham and some candy, too, as well as left-over mandarins from the dinner. Then, tonight we spoke to 6 out of our 9 kids. The other three we spoke to last night. I love this time of year. One of the best things was hearing 8 of our grand-kids sing us Silent Night on speaker phone.
I sincerely hope that all of our friends and family members have had a glorious day today. I just wish the peace we feel would last forever.

One bad thing happened today. While we were having Church service we discovered there wasn't any water in the building. We finally got a little bit, but not enough to do dishes. Bonnie and I going back tomorrow morning to do the dishes.
It has been a fine day and one of our most memorable Christmas days. After the dinner we went to visit the Villneffs. Then we came home, had a cup of hot chocolate and opened our gifts.
I must explain about the back scratcher. I have some form of skin rash that is worse at times. Often I itch and need to scratch my back. People got tired of seeing me back up to a door frame to scratch my back I guess. Anyway, I am grateful to get it and get rid of the flimsy ruler Bonnie has that I was using. Have you ever tried to scratch your back with a flexible item? Doesn't work too well.

Bob: Merry Christmas to everyone. We hope you are enjoying Christmas eve. Our day has been wonderful. Because of Bonnie we have given out 2 Book of Mormons to residents here in the building and a Mo-Tab DVD to the resident managers. Delivered 4 other plates of goodies and just enjoyed the day.
Found a car wash that is less than 2 miles from our apartment. Washed the car today for $2. They told me they have it open year round. Makes me happy. I have to use a wand to spray the car, but it is inside and not very cold. If no one else is in line I can dry it off so the doors don't freeze shut!!

Bonnie: It has been a remarkable day. I felt that one of the seniors here should have a Book of Mormon this Christmas. She readily accepted it, having had previous experiences with an LDS woman who worked with her years ago. She also grew up in a little town with a meetinghouse for the church, although she was not allowed to go as a child. Anyway, she said she always wanted a Book of Mormon! That was neat. There is also a preacher here that holds services in his apartment. We thought we should try to give him one, also. He graciously accepted it, although we doubt he will read it. We made two other stops and enjoyed the visiting. We found out that we are missed at "Tea" which happens every day from 2 to 4. Most days we are not home, but we plan on going back when we can. We dropped off cookies to two other members of the church after that, and after washing the car, went home.
I can't believe it is Christmas Eve already. The time goes too quickly here. We have talked to some of our children and grandchildren tonight. I can't wait to see them again. My second oldest grandson will be ordained a deacon tomorrow, and be ready to pass the sacrament January 1st.
We hope all of our readers, both family and friends, have a special Christmas day tomorrow and feel our Savior's love for them. May there be peace on earth, if not tomorrow, someday soon.

Bob & Bonnie: Been a busy day. We did manage to take Christmas gifts to 4 homes today. Because of the warming temperatures we were able to drive into Villneff's. The road to their place is a steep hill that could trap a car if there was a new snow.
Then we took a gift to Cambridge's. There is a picture below of the road to their house. Warren, who is 85, used a snow blower to clear the road back to his house. I would estimate it to be about 100 yards from the main road to his house. He made 2 passes from his house to the road and back. You can make out their house through the trees at the end of the road.
On the way back home we stopped and took the picture of Lake Timiskaming. That's our apartment building and the Catholic Church in the foreground. Behind is the lake. The land mass to the right in the water is an island. That is ice on past the island. The ice goes to Quebec. However, from the island to the Ontario shore the lake is still water. It may all be ice next week sometime. Will send pictures then.
At 3:00 we went to pick up Olga Orchard and take her shopping at Walmart.We met her through the Meals on Wheels program. She is very aged and quite frail. She got just a few things. On the way back to her home she detoured us to show us the school which she attended (it has been relocated from it's original site) and where she was born and raised.
At 5:30 the young Elders and us went to Sister Park's home for dinner. It was a nice Mexican meal. After the dinner the Elders and I gave blessings to Sister Park and her son, Adam.
It's now 09:50 and time for bed. We got up at 6:30 today for swimming and shopping. We are both beat. Hope your Christmas Eve and Christmas are special. Love to all and good night brothers.

Bob: The weather is warming up and the snow is melting. Quite pleasant today and more of the same the next 2 days before the temperature drops again.
Spent most of the day delivering cookies to various members. Able to find some home. Bonnie is baking more cookies tonight.
Heard from the Zobell's today, but could not reach them tonight. Will try again tomorrow. They are the couple that will be replacing us at the end of February.

Bonnie: We had a delicious lunch with Trudy and Jack Perry today--soup and sandwiches with yummy cookies and butter tarts for dessert. They are such a sweet couple! Then, we talked to Donna at the nursing home. She is trying to help out her fellow seniors there. She is very friendly. I think it is helping her overcome her depression with having to be there and losing her home and independence. Shortly after we arrived, the nursing home had an "Eggnog and Caroling" party in the dining room. We timed that just right! They offered us bite of carrot cake with the eggnog.
We made several other visits and ended up talking to a less-active sister as we did so. It was a good day, however, we have more deliveries to make tomorrow. I got home and realized that I was low on cookies. So, tonight I did more baking. Hopefully we will have enough to finish off with some of our acquaintances in our apartment building. And hopefully we can share the Book of Mormon with some of them. That would be the best Christmas present we could give them.

Bob: Started the day with a 42 lap swim, my longest swim yet. Felt pretty good when I finished.
President Jakob picked me up about 12:30 to go HT with him. We visited Sister Simon in Haileybury and then headed north for Kirkland Lake. Stopped at the Gold Country Motel and Restaurant and had fish 'n chips for lunch. Then we visited Sister MacLeod, Sister Ng and finally Brother and Sister Granatier. We left Granatier's about 8 and arrived in Elk Lake at 9. The roads were snow covered almost all the way back to Elk Lake.
Bonnie had driven to Elk Lake and gone with Sister Jakob on some errands. Route 65 from New Liskeard to Elk Lake did not have any snow on it. She and I left the Jakob's shortly after I arrived. We had clear roads, but light snow showers on the way home.

Bob: Took Bonnie Visiting Teaching this morning. We visited 2 sisters. Tried to visit another non-member couple but they were not home. Afterwards we came home. I had to be at the high school at 1:15 to officiate 2 boys basketball games. Bonnie stayed home and worked on the meal for the Elders tonight.
I got home about 5:15 and it was snowing! Didn't think that was going to happen today. I'm planning on going to Kirkland Lake tomorrow with Karl as his HT partner. We made need a sleigh because it has been snowing all day there.
The Elders came over for dinner tonight. It is fun to have them around. Elder Holden said he never ate soup in Arizona and now he has had lots of different soups in Canada. He must like it as he ate 2 bowls tonight of Bonnie's copycat recipe for Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana. It was very tasty. And the homemade brownies were extra special too!

Bonnie: Bob has summed up our day. It was nice having some time to myself this afternoon, although I was busy straightening things up and cooking for tonight.
Tomorrow I will drive up to Elk Lake by noon and go with Patsy on all of her errands with their foster daughters. It will be a long day, but an enjoyable one. The only thing I'm concerned about is the weather driving to Elk Lake. I would rather not drive in the snow.

Bonnie: We've had a busy day being Santa Claus today--delivering cookies to various places. We also did our Meals on Wheels deliveries this afternoon. When we found one person not home we hurried by the Office, asking what we should do. The employees were just leaving for the day. One said, after we told her the name, that this person was no longer receiving the meals and that we should eat it because it would have to be thrown away. So, Bob ate the meal! It wasn't too bad, although I'm not sure it was enough for him.
After dinner, we went to clean the church with another single sister. It went quickly. By now it was after 7:00 and Bob wanted to go to Cobalt to deliver some more cookies. We had a nice conversation with a less-active man there. We feel like we should visit him more often because he seems depressed. Anyway, it was good to get home tonight. I think it takes lots of energy to put on all the warm things each time you go out, especially the boots, and then to take them all off again at each place. One thing is for sure. I'm glad I have a pair of good ear-muffs!!

Bob: Speaking of ear-muffs, Jean told Bonnie tonight that she could turn the ear muffs a quarter turn and keep her nose warm!! He might be depressed, but he has a sense of humor.
Boots, scarves, hats, gloves and coats on and off again is tiring. However, they are a necessary in the frozen north. Good news is the weather is beginning to warm up until Christmas day. We wanted to look this up, but can't remember why now.

After dinner, we went to clean the church with another single sister. It went quickly. By now it was after 7:00 and Bob wanted to go to Cobalt to deliver some more cookies. We had a nice conversation with a less-active man there. We feel like we should visit him more often because he seems depressed. Anyway, it was good to get home tonight. I think it takes lots of energy to put on all the warm things each time you go out, especially the boots, and then to take them all off again at each place. One thing is for sure. I'm glad I have a pair of good ear-muffs!!

Bob: Speaking of ear-muffs, Jean told Bonnie tonight that she could turn the ear muffs a quarter turn and keep her nose warm!! He might be depressed, but he has a sense of humor.

Bob: It has been a cold day in the frozen north among the 'frozen chosen'. Right now the temperature is -12 F, and feels like -27! Bonnie is so happy!! Actually we are doing quite well. It isn't so bad without the wind. It feels like we're walking on styrofoam everywhere we go because of the frozen snow. Lake Temiskaming has not frozen over yet, but it looks like it is getting close, with icy patches along the shore. The Montreal River is frozen over at least at Elk Lake. We visited Brother Tom Cambridge tonight. He lives on the a smaller lake off the main route to Elk Lake. He said his family was skating on the lake today because it has frozen over. We also went home teaching with Brad and visited Amanda McColeman and her sister, Tiffani. Then we stopped to see Donna Craig at the nursing home.
Bonnie and I also visited Phylis Huywan in another nursing home this afternoon after church.

Our Sabbath today was great, except that Sister Cushman's foot really started bothering her after sacrament meeting. She was in so much pain that Bob had to take them home, about an hour and 10 minutes round trip. In our sacrament meeting a Sister spoke about joy, using Elder Nelson's talk from conference. She did a very good job. She also taught Relief Society. She gave all of us bath salts she had made herself. We had a RS Presidency Meeting after church and then started our visits as Bob has written.
It's now time to plan our week. It looks like that Sunday, Christmas Day, there will be a pot luck for anyone who has no place special to go for Christmas. That includes us and the Elders, of course, and a number of singles who don't have close families. It should be very nice.

Bob: It has been a snowy Saturday here. I have cleaned the car off 3 times and as I look out the window now it is covered with snow again. Not sure how many inches of snow we have gotten, but church is never cancelled here. The instructions are if you don't feel safe driving then don't come to church. The Branch President is a retired semi-truck driver and he says he will be at church if anyone chooses to come. I heard that one time he and his Counselor conducted Sacrament with only one other person present. Hasn't happened to us yet.
We had our Christmas dinner today. Brad, Warren and Ev Cambridge, and the 2 missionaries were here with us. Bonnie fixed a turkey and stuffed the bird. The turkey was very moist and delicious. I believe cooking the turkey in a cooking bag is the very best way to get a moist turkey.
Bonnie and I picked up Sister Joyce Simon about 6:00 and went to clean the church. There was so much snow on the road up to the church that I took an alternate way and came down the hill to the church. The road crews haven't gotten to that street yet.

It will be nice to get back to our Branch. We have plans to go Home Teaching with Brad after church, and after we give the sacrament to Phyllis in the nursing home. I have three cookie plates made up, plus a special ornament for Phyllis that one of the RS counselors made. It looks like it will be an enjoyable Sabbath.

Bob: Back to the swimming pool this morning. It took an hour but I was able to swim a mile. Not having been swimming in 9 days made a difference. And there was something wrong with the water heater as the pool was a few degrees cooler than normal. Maintenance was working on it. Hope it is repaired by Monday.
We left at 11:00 to attend the Christmas dinner at Cushman's nursing home. It was quite nice. Things got started with a bang though. One of the residents was attempting to slide his chair sideways and tipped over. No one hurt, thank goodness.
We stopped to visit 2 other potential investigators afterwards. We will be going back to see one of them, but it looks as if the other man might be too busy to see us for a while.
Then we went to the Jakob's to drop off their Christmas gift. We were so full from the earlier meal they we begged off eating.
When we got home Bonnie began preparing things for tomorrow's meal. I had the duty of breaking bread for dressing, slicing onions and celery. Finally got done and had time to watch another Murdoch Mystery.
It's 11:30 so I had better get to bed. Hope tonight's rest is better than last night. Went to bed early enough last night, but awoke 3 times during the night with leg cramps. Probably didn't drink enough water while officiating the basketball games.

Bonnie: We left by about 9:45 this morning for Kirkland Lake. We visited our Polish friend Krystyna and then made several short stops other places. We wanted to leave something for Christmas with everyone so we gave them clementines in a decorative bag. The bags were leftover from last year when we provided some things for Christmas for needy missionaries. It was well received. We were home by about 4:00 and glad to get here. The weather showed -6 degrees Fahrenheit when we left this morning and it climbed to a wonderful 0 degrees by the time we got back.
Tonight while Bob is refereeing three basketball games I have been baking cookies. We want to give something to members and non-members alike. Some of the non-members we know we will give the church video "Joy to the World". Oh, and Bob bought 50 pounds of potatoes today! We plan on giving those out as well to members in need. We need to get these things out next week.
I'm so tired right now and Bob just walked in so I will sign off.

Bob: According to the car the temperate is a -8 degrees right now. I have the oil pan heater plugged in just in case. Had to replace a windshield wiper blade today: 39.95 plus tax!! I am just glad they had it. I don't know why I bought 50 pounds of potatoes today. I meant to buy 10 pounds. Just another senior moment I guess. We want to make some potato soup, but not 10 batches.
Basketball games went okay. I can't get up and down the court as quickly as I would like, but I'm probably faster now then I will be next year at this time! Not sure if that is a positive outlook or not.
It was cold today just walking from the car to people's front door to give them the clementines. Bought a pair of snow pants at Walmart yesterday. I wore them over my basketball pants tonight. I'll be wearing them on the cold days over my dress pants from now on. Need another belt though as they don't have a drawstring.
Better get to bed. Got to get up early and get to the pool. Haven't been there since a week ago Wednesday.

Bonnie: It's good to get home, especially after last night's late arrival. We had lots of catching up to do so the day went quickly. I was able to do some visiting teaching to one of our YSAs in the Branch. Other than that we did normal things like wash and the shopping. We are having a big Christmas dinner on Saturday, and hope to have one of our less-active couples attend, as well as the missionaries. We bought a Butterball turkey in Brampton for it. I don't like most of the turkeys here--lots of them come without the giblets and neck, and don't seem to brown up very well. I won't have much time to prepare for it because we are busy going to Kirkland Lake tomorrow and Englehart/Elk Lake on Friday. I may have a few late nights ahead!

Bob and Bonnie: Just got home from Brampton a few minutes ago. It is 12:04 as I write this. We went to the office this morning and then to lunch at the mall with Elder and Sister Budgett. Then, Elder and Sister Allred, who work in the temple, came walking by and ate with us! It was nice to see everyone again.
We stayed at the Mission Home last night. Didn't get there until 8:30 PM. We had an hour's detour in Pennsylvania because I entered the incorrect town on the GPS. Got to check those auto fills!!
Went to the temple at 3:00 this afternoon with the missionaries returning home. It was very nice. Bonnie and I were the witness couple.
Left for home at 5:40. We hit traffic in Brampton trying to get on the interstate and then when we hit Rt. 400 going north. By the time we got to Barrie we were 15 minutes behind schedule. When we hit Gravenhurst "Ole Man Winter" let loose with the snow. We had snow-covered roads until about 50 km from North Bay. When I stopped for gas I thought we might get hung up between the main road and the island where the gas pumps were. Once we got going again we were running 50 to 60 km/hr but ran into 2 trucks plowing snow. They had the road blocked and were going about 35 km/hr. Followed them for about 10 - 15 minutes. Once we left North Bay things were fine until about 50 km from home when the snow hit again. We finally made it home at 11:20. So it took us about 5 hours and 40 minutes. Not too bad considering the weather problems.

Bob: Been a long day. Up before 7 to start the bathroom, shower parade. Church started at 9:00 and we barely made it.Two sisters were singing a prelude number when we walked in. There were five speakers in Sacrament Meeting, and it ran over. The last sister made the point that you don't find time for service, you make time for service. Very interesting point.
Anyway church was over at 1 and we headed back to Chris and Suzy's for lunch. Packed up and left about 2:45 for Dan and Misty's. Bonnie wanted to be there to help with dinner preparations for 15 people. After dinner we packed up and went to the Stake Center for Michael's 7:00 baptism. It was very sweet, and there were about 50 people there. It was late getting started as the Elders had started filling the font a little past 5, but forgot to put the plug in the drain! Needless to say we were a little late getting started. And Michael probably had one of the coldest baptisms ever! But he never said a word about it. Dan had prepared him well by telling him what had happened and not to be surprised if the water was a little cold. Michael was a real trooper and never said anything.
We arrived back at the house about 9 and then began the clean up from the dinner. Bonnie, Ammon and I got the dishes done relatively quickly.
Time for bed. It is an 8 hour trip tomorrow and we have a stop or two to make besides gas and lunch. Hope you had a great weekend. Love to everyone and good night brothers.

Bonnie: It's really been a wonderful day. There was such a sweet spirit at Michael's baptism. Both of his grandmother's spoke, Claire on baptism and me on the Holy Ghost. There was enough dessert for everyone, which surprised me because there were lots of children. Michael invited two of his best friends from school who are not members of the Church. They came with their mothers. All four of them seemed to enjoy it. Misty and Dan have been called as Branch Missionaries and they are doing a great job.
The best part of the week-end has been spending time with children and grandchildren. I can't express what a joy it has been to be here. I hope everyone has had a wonderful week-end as well.

Bob: Been a very busy 2 days. We had to do some shopping yesterday that took most of the day. Then we spent some time playing games with Misty's kids. About 8:30 PM we headed to Chris and Suzy's place in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. That is about an hour and 30 minutes away from Misty's. Got there well after 10. Stayed up talking till too late. Arose late today and went Christmas tree shopping. Found a nice tree about 8 feet tall. Chris took it home while Bonnie, Evie and I finished getting the things we were after. All of us pitched in and we had the tree decorated in about an hour.
This afternoon we went to Suzy's voice recital. She sang 3 songs from 3 different operas. She is quite talented and very good. There were several other individuals on the program and they were from all age groups. All of them did well.
Tonight we attended the Ward Christmas party. It was a nice affair. The menu was Mediterranean style. Not your usual turkey and dressing, but quite good.
It is time to retire as we need to get up at 7 to get ready for Church. Love to all and good night brothers.

Bonnie: Bob has done a good job of updating the blog. The Christmas party was really great. We met some wonderful people. There was music from the Primary, the YW and the Activity Day girls. There was a beautiful live nativity. There was an award for the family in the best-dressed Jewish costumes from the time of Christ, as well as the best cookies for dessert. Just after the closing prayer Santa Claus showed up. There must have been at least 100 people there and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. A note about the food: it was flavorful chicken in pita bread, couscous, and a red onion, tomato, cucumber salad, plus crackers and hummus. It was followed with a wide variety of cookies for dessert. Everything was delicious. Suzy did a fabulous job as the person in charge of the party!

Bob: Didn't get away from the motel till about 9:20. Crossing the border was not a problem. When we pulled up to wait our turn the car in front was waved through and we went right up to the guard station. She asked a couple questions and off we went. Found a local credit union in Buffalo so we could deposit some money and then headed for Misty's.
The roads began to have some snow accumulation, but after about an hour we were out of that and the rest of the drive was snow free. Stopped in Williamsport, PA for lunch. That is about 3 hours from Misty's place. We would have made it in 3 hours except we hit traffic near Baltimore and that slowed us down for about 30 - 40 minutes. There was also an accident that held things up.

Bob: Got up early and went swimming the first thing this morning. There was just a light dusting of new snow. Got to the pool early and swam 40 laps today.
We left Haileybury a little before 11 this morning. Stopped in Huntsville for rest room, something to eat and gas. We then stopped and visited for about an hour with Elder and Sister Budgett. I brought one of Sister Park's broken dining room chairs hoping he could fix it. Our replacements, Elder and Sister Zobell, arrived yesterday. The Mission is sending them to the Bishop's Storehouse till the end of December. After that they will need other assignments to keep them busy until we leave.
We decided to stop for pizza tonight, but had a little trouble finding a Pizza Hut. Ended up backtracking about 17 kiolmeters. Finally got to the Comfort Inn in Fort Erie at around 9:00.
We did get the car washed in Brampton. It doesn't look like the same car now. It's white instead of muddy colored.

We left Haileybury a little before 11 this morning. Stopped in Huntsville for rest room, something to eat and gas. We then stopped and visited for about an hour with Elder and Sister Budgett. I brought one of Sister Park's broken dining room chairs hoping he could fix it. Our replacements, Elder and Sister Zobell, arrived yesterday. The Mission is sending them to the Bishop's Storehouse till the end of December. After that they will need other assignments to keep them busy until we leave.
We decided to stop for pizza tonight, but had a little trouble finding a Pizza Hut. Ended up backtracking about 17 kiolmeters. Finally got to the Comfort Inn in Fort Erie at around 9:00.
We did get the car washed in Brampton. It doesn't look like the same car now. It's white instead of muddy colored.

Bob: This has been an interesting day. I went to the bank to withdraw some money so I could put it in our American account and pay for the furniture purchased for missionaries in Val d'Or. She initially said she didn't have that much American money and would have to order it. But ordering it and receiving it only takes about 30 minutes, so I would be able to get it. I signed all the papers and left the bank without the money. She said to stop back in about 30 minutes or so and present the receipt to whoever was working the teller station. Thankfully it was the same lady.
We visited Cathy Mason, a non-member, at Wendy's. The court hearing she is involved with was scheduled yesterday, but when they got there the hearing was cancelled because they couldn't get a policeman to attend. Now she has to sit and stew about this for another month. We don't really know exactly what is going on, but hopefully there can be some resolution soon.
We also visited for a few minutes with Margaret Villneff. Bonnie took her a small ornament from the Relief Society, the VT message and a card from us. I wanted to see their Christmas tree as Norm painted a vivid picture of how nice it would be. Well, their cat upset the tree yesterday and it hadn't been put back together yet.
Then Brother Cambridge and I went to Sister Park's to fix the shower rod. It took us about 2 hours. He had to cut the rod that extends down from the ceiling and tap the hole for the set screw, but we finally got it to hang alright.
The last thing today was the Activity Night. Only the Cambridge's and the missionaries were there so we talked about some service we could do as a Branch around Christmas. When we ended Bonnie and Sister Cambridge went to the church for a conference call with President Ng of the the Relief Society Presidency.
Bonnie just got home. I'm closing and hitting the sack. Want to swim in the morning and I think there will be some snow to shovel before we leave.

Bonnie: It's been a good day. The potential investigator at Wendy's said she was grateful to have us praying for her, that she felt our strength. She told us previously that she was reading a little of the Book of Mormon I had given her! There is great hope here.
Activity Night was nice because we had a great discussion about singing carols before Christmas to two nursing homes in town. We may ask Sister Wiwchar to play her harp. It may actually come together. Then, Ev and I went to the church to have a Presidency meeting by conference call with the RS President and Counselor over activities. They live in Kirkland Lake, about 60 miles away. It was a great discussion and we took care of some sticky problems.
Now, it's time to get to bed so we can have enough sleep for the first leg of our trip to Maryland tomorrow. I'm starting to get excited!

Bonnie: Our day began with Bob helping out our single Mom in the Branch, with Brother Cambridge's help. Meanwhile I went with Brother Cambridge's wife Ev to visit some sisters. It's always fun to go with her! When we got home I made brownies and we delivered them to three people before dinner, and Sister Donna Craig after dinner. It's been a full day, but a good one.
We have much to do tomorrow in preparation for our trip to the States to see my grandson baptized. Tomorrow night will probably be our last Activity Night for the year. There is also a potential investigator we want to see at Wendy's tomorrow.
May all of us have a productive day Tuesday, and not forget to do an act of service for the "Light the World" campaign sponsered by the Church!

Woke up to a couple inches of new snow. Was able to get the car cleaned and to the swimming pool in time to do 38 laps today. A new personal best. If I feel good Wednesday morning I want to try for 40 laps, but I'll need to arise a little earlier because there is 3 inches of snow forecast for Tuesday PM and Wednesday AM.

Bonnie: It's been a wonderful Sabbath, especially because of the testimonies born in our little Branch. There have been some divisive issues in the past, and forgiveness was asked for and received. The Branch Council followed church today, which is always helpful. Then, we went to the Christmas program for the community choir, held at the Anglican Church, I believe. Our very special British sister, who is in her 80s sang soprano. It was very nicely done. After that, we headed to visit an elderly sister in the nursing home. We went with Brad and they blessed the bread and water and gave her the sacrament. By now, it was 5:00 and we headed home, quite ready to do so. After dinner, we enjoyed watching the Christmas Devotional.
Our missionary experience for the day: A Sister who is less-active called the Branch President and wants to come back to church! The problem is that we cannot see her until we get back from our trip, probably the 15th of December. But, I had a nice talk with her, and there is definitely hope.

Bob: Not much I can add to this. Been a delightful Fast Sunday. I did talk to Lorraine, my sister-in-law tonight. She has moved into her new home in Reader and just loves it she says. She has been back in WV since September last year and has still not gone up to the home where she and Eddie lived. She did say I could have all of Eddie's genealogical records. I'll probably have to take the truck back to WV and box everything up. He had those records stacked up throughout the house.
Well it's time to go to bed. Plan on swimming in the morning and then helping brother Cambridge finish up some electrical work at Sister Park's house. After that we have a couple of people to go see.

Bob: This has been quite a day. Started by taking the car in for a brake check. They ended up changing pads on one front wheel and both the rotors. One of the calipers needed some work in the back also. Bill came to 494.48 Canadian or about 380 USD.
About a quarter till one we left for dinner at Janet Hamilton's in Dobie. We took the Elders with us. Stopped along the way and had them get out so we could take their picture with the snowy background. We don't have this much snow where we are. This is only about 50 minutes north of us.
A picture of the table setting is next. Tried to take a picture of Janet and did not see Bonnie in the picture. As you can tell I surprised her. She baked the desserts for the meal. She baked two pies and some pumpkin squares. One pie was pecan. The other was an apple pie. When the apple pie comes out of the oven she sprinkles pecans and caramel sauce all over the topping of the pie. Delicious!
Next is a picture of Janet's house heating system with the fuel stacked beside it. The furnace has been down for a couple days with a plugged chimney. President Jakob and his family arrived before we did so he climbed onto the roof and so he could rod out the stove pipe. When we arrive the fire was going.
After dinner most visited while the Elders and I spent over an hour hand washing the dishes. Janet wanted them washed in the hottest water possible. We were not to add any cold water to the wash or rinse water. It took a long time for Elder Holden and I to get used to the water on our hands.
All in all everyone had a good time. Janet was so gracious. She wants everyone to come back for a Valentine's party!!

Bonnie: It would be nice if my husband would tell me when he is taking a picture! We did have a great day. There were 13 of us and we had a wonderful time visiting and eating delicious food. Janet has many antiques and beautiful Christmas dishes. She is an amazing woman who has been through lots of hard times.
Tomorrow is our December fast. After today's meal, I need a fast, not only from food. I feel a strong need to have the Lord's help with our missionary work. May we all enjoy an extra spiritual day tomorrow.

Bob: Swam again this morning. The pool is only open for an hour on Friday mornings so I only made 35 laps. The ladies for the exercise class were getting in the pool so I had to get out.
Bonnie and I went back to Sister Park's house with the Elders. We were all working on several jobs, and I think a lot was accomplished. We finally left to deliver 'Meals on Wheels'. Had 3 people to deliver to today. Also Bonnie took a birthday card to Sister Borean in Cobalt.
This evening Bonnie baked both an apple and a pecan pie for dinner tomorrow. We are going to Sister Hamilton's house in Dobie. (Take a minute and look up Dobie on Google Maps. We are on the corner of McKay and Brown St). President Jakob is supposed to be there. I think we have to put a rod up her chimney before we do anything else so she can light a fire in her stove. President Jakob did it last year also.

Bonnie: It's a good thing Patsy called us about Sis. Hamilton's chimney because she can't get her house warm until the chimney is "rodded" out. Patsy told us to dress extra warm while we wait for Sister Hamilton to start up her stove. I appreciate the warning.
It's been a busy day. First thing this morning I went with Ev to see if a potential investigator needed help with her move. We will be going back on Monday because today didn't work for her. We accomplished lots at Sister Park's house this afternoon. At least, after some donations are picked up Monday, she can park in her garage. And Bob worked on two different cupboards that needed it and put up a set of drapes. And Kim gave us a very special gift--a Willow Tree plaque of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. I love it! When we delivered the birthday card, we met another son in that family, so that is good. We always enjoy our "Meals On Wheels" deliveries. After that, I did the baking. I hope everyone enjoys the pies and pumpkin squares tomorrow. I was also asked to make a "Green Bean Casserole". I will do that in the morning.

Bob: We didn't accomplish much today. I spent about 3 hours helping Brother Cambridge repair an entry door to Sister Park's garage. Once upon a time they must have kicked the door in and broken part of the door casing. It had never been repaired and the door would not stay shut. Brother Cambridge took of piece of 1" x 1" and planed it down to fit. Then he had to plane the casing so the surface would be flat. Eventually we were able to glue and nail the piece in place. He did a nice job on it. Our only problem, of course, is that we were in the cold for those 3 hours. We were pretty cold when we finished.
Tonight I went with Brother Sauve and helped him officiate a basketball game in the men's league. The high school coach was there and wants me to officiate their sub varsity and varsity games on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Games are at 2:00 and 3:30. He said they use NFHS and FIBA rules. I have no idea about FIBA rules, but he said he would give me a list of the differences. He said one of the major differences is that FIBA uses a 35 second shot clock. He told me he didn't think the rule differences would be a problem.

Bonnie: This morning I helped Sister Cambridge clean out a room in the basement of the Church. There were lots of boxes and an old nativity set. There was another nativity made out of cardboard as well. There were lots of table cloths and other Christmas decorations as well as Halloween items, vases and material. We threw lots of stuff away, and emptied probably 7 or 8 boxes of various sizes. After getting a bite to eat we went to the Christmas party tonight in the Common Room. We helped decorate the tree and ate some goodies. After Bob left for his games, we sang Christmas carols. It was a very nice evening. Oh, and there was a raffle and I won a fruitcake! I'm sure Bob will enjoy it.
Tomorrow we have more opportunities to serve. I'm so glad we can do it.
May all of us have opportunities to serve, especially as we are encouraged by the Church's "Light the World" campaign. The Church suggests a little bit of service every day between now and Christmas.
I think it's a great way to get into the Spirit of the season!
